View Full Version : Not a joke- mysayso.com
mina_babe 08-04-2002, 10:57 PM Just discovered this site while surfing Paypal: http://www.mysayso.com
FYI: according to Paypal, the owner of this web design business has had 200 paying customers to date! Don't know if they're all design-related, but stranger things have happened... Check out the "designs" that he's done; you'll laugh till you lose bladder control.
21inchguns 08-04-2002, 11:04 PM that scrolling banner at the top gave me a headache....it seems that is a feature of all their sites.....
fractiousws 08-04-2002, 11:05 PM ROTFL, marqee.... *shutters*
Tux-e-do 08-04-2002, 11:09 PM Hmm 200 sales and he still can't afford a decent payment system?
Me thinks a bit of porkies be done here.
At lease pay for someone else to design the site if your too busy
RackFive 08-04-2002, 11:20 PM "Welcome to mysayso.com! We are a leader in web design. We now offer hosting and web design as low as $450.00"
hahaha
:D
JSpired 08-04-2002, 11:26 PM Yikes! I could get motion sickness from that scrolling banner.
markcastle 08-04-2002, 11:29 PM Oh but you've got to love the Hawaii-Five-O theme tune on the www.waukeshapolice.com site they "designed". Fantastic stuff!!
Anyhow - here is another personal favourite http://www.wagsites.com
I know the guy that designed it so i just got to say it is excellent !!
RackFive 08-04-2002, 11:32 PM who pay for the design of a site like that (waukeshapolice.com)? i can make a better one with front page themes :D
shaunewing 08-04-2002, 11:40 PM *gets motion sickness from all the movements on the page*
I wouldn't let them *pay me* to design a site for me. My younger sister could probably do something better in Frontpage and MS Paint :D

She's very competitive, only $149.95 per page :D
She'll even throw in the use of the blink tag as an added bonus free of charge to make your site even more alive!
Not to mention a free midi background sound of your choice. After all, that's the trend these days.
:D

does she have metallica background sounds ?
...but hey, she's obviously making a living from it so it might not be as bad as you think...
Some of ya are probably just "pissed" that someone actually paid her (not you!) for those "designs"! lol
RackFive 08-05-2002, 12:07 AM you are right :)
RackFive 08-05-2002, 12:08 AM maybe big hosting companys think the same of people like me who have a small server and offer hosting
mina_babe 08-05-2002, 12:14 AM BWA-HAHAHAHA! Love that Wagsites link. ROFLMAO!!!! I especially love the disclaimer at the bottom warning visitors that their site is best viewd at such and such resolution. Hello-- this site is best viewed never!
Yeah, that Hawaii Five Oh had me laughing, too. (I mean, UGH!!! WTF?? And lurv the marquee too, like everyone else here, lol.) But the one that really got me was http://www.oemsolutionsinc.com. I'm still crying over that one. Wait for the navigation to load on that so that you can check the rest of the pages!
Also check out http://www.liftandlube.com. This one shamelessly *borrows* the splash image and internal images from http://www.rotarylift.com. Aw, man-- when does the hurting stop?? :emlaugh:

Hrmm.. I've heard of "borrowing" a site design, but taking the whole logo - that is just going one step two far.
I wonder if our good friends at ThyssenKrupp (who own Dover Elevator which in turns owns Rotary Lift) know about it.

Hey, let's spare ThyssenKrupp's feelings and go by the "Ignorance is Bliss" philosophy. They'd cry if they saw what was being done in their good name!
But then again, if this guy is making good money off them, I say let 'em know, but, um.. *cough cough* discreetly...:D
markcastle 08-05-2002, 08:56 PM Hmmmm All the sites seem to have gone?? Well - at least Wagsites is still up - an enduring masterpiece.
ToastyX 08-05-2002, 09:14 PM You'll be surprised how much small local businesses are willing to pay just for a simple made-with-FrontPage web site.

I don't think it would surprise me to be honest. I've seen a lot of horrible sites by business presumably making their first steps into an Internet presence.
They don't have much experience, so X Frontpage Designer tells them that it would cost millions to have a decent looking site so they settle for a half-baked Frontpage piece of rubbish.
Personally - I'd rather have a decent looking site or nothing at all. Admittedly I'm not the best at web design out there (but I'm certainly far from the worst) - but then again I don't do websites for other people :)
It's funny - you tell people you do work with computers - the first thing they ask is "web design?".

That's because I botched some of the URLs!
Here they are:

Gem Hexen 08-06-2002, 12:27 AM Those midi files in the background are hoooot stuff
mina_babe 08-06-2002, 05:47 AM Found another *award winning site:* http://www.mcg2000.com/websites.html
This web design firm specializing in web design designed this one:
http://www.usoftrecords.com/
Try right clicking on it to see what happens.
shaunewing 08-06-2002, 06:21 AM You're killing me with laughter... that http://www.mcg2000.com/websites.html is a classic.
I wasn't sure whether it was an advertisement for Tonka trucks or something else :)
The scrolling marquee and the "Welcome to Adobe Golive 5" really add the finishing touches - or the icing to the cake so to speak :D
I think I'd better go hire them immediately for my upcoming website project :)

ROFL - Absolutely fantastic.... Can believe this.....
"USOFT Records is truly honored to have received this prestigious award from the I.A.W.M.D. (International Association of Web Masters and Designers), and in having our Web-site selected for the "2001-2002 Golden Web Award"."
Nearly had me in tears of laughter!!
markcastle 08-06-2002, 07:50 AM I had a laugh at http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/
(Make sure you click a few links). I emailed the owner and suggested that he include his own site in his "Award Winning" WebPages That Suck book due to it's total lack of coherent navigation - he was none too pleased!! LOL - While it's not quite as bad as some of the sites mentioned in this thread, given that the whole purpose of the site is to take the p**s out of bad sites it goes right to the top of my list.
OK thanks for the headache.
Webpagesthatsuck has been raked over the coals for suckage themselves. Different (non coordinated) colors for every page, confusing navigation ect. That guy probably has a "we do not suck, you do" autoresponder.

Oh, yeah-- I mean, the whole site is so dweeby.
How'd this guy become such a "guru" on web design? All of his pet peeves are either so blatantly obvious that they don't strike you as insightful-- or they're about really old stuff that people were doing back in 1997 but aren't doing anymore.
