Guys, other that Rackshack / 4webspace.com is there any others offering Raq 3 or 4 at similar price and bandwidth?

Lastly it seems theres no users from rackshack.net dedicated coming here or is there?

Well, there's http://www.cobaltracks.com, but you might want to do a little research before signing up with them. :)

I'd like to see a post from someone that's a customer of RackShack. Their prices look good, but the setup fees are discouraging me from giving them a test drive.

Cobaltracks has a minimum 6 months contract :-(

I'm think i'm going for rackshack.net. Any advice?

Well, I will probably sign up with Rackshack.net.
I was going to go with 4webspace, but their support ,non-existant replies to my questions and horror stories that I have heard...

I spent all day yesterday speaking to rackshack's sales and support via Chat. Thet seem really great!!!
I also spoke to a custmer that was very pleased with them...
One cool thing is that they don't charge you to reinstall everything if you mess up. Also their network connection seems better that 4webspace.

I will let you all know how it goes...

Please let me know how it goes liteoff if you sign up before me!

Thanks

Michael

Yes..... please let us know how it is with rackshack.net. So far there is no WHT member that uses their service. Your experience will be very valuable for all of us.

BTW, which plan are you guys getting?

cheers,

Saying 4webspace.com is bad would be a lie. Rackshack will have the fast responsive staff at the moment fast network etc etc since they have just started and wont have much traffic travelling over there network. 4webspace.com grew very fast and im not sure they expected it to grow as fast as it did do. they have had 3 or 4 complaints about customer support over the past few days now they are a horrible company togo with? i think thats a bit harsh.

The 4webspace network went slow for a while but those who are with them now will of noticed the speed is starting to pick up again. I would still recommend these to anyone who wants a raq.

I'd be pretty suprised if in 2 months time all the raving about rackshack doesnt turn into rants. 4webspace started the same way as rackshack is. Build them upto be good a few problems and then u try to smash them down. Give them a break.

You sure? I could swear I saw something on their page that said you'd be charged a feee if they have to restore the RaQ.

Exactly :). Its easy to run a webhost when everything is going smoothly. How you handle problems demonstrates how good you really are. So far, Steve, as well as other 4webspace employees, seem to have handled problems very well.

That's not to say rackshack is not a good host :)

Yes I am sure, I got it confirmed in a e-mail and in a chat session!

Comment to Matrix, they don't support MySQL as it isn't supported by Cobalt. rackshack supports everything that comes preinstalled with the RAQ4!

Rackshack was also awarded "True Blue partner of the month" over at cobalt.com, this must be good!

Technics, I believe that Rackshack and 4webspace have existed for about the same amount of time.
I wanted to go with 4webspace because I had heard all the good things here at WHT, but now there are a few things that I don't like with 4webspace. First of all, their connection is very slow with to many hops. Their owner Steve, claims that they have a capacity with over 1.3Gb/s and that they don't use sprintlink as their main backbone provider, but every traceroute I have performed goes through sprintlink (Europe, US, Australia...).
Second I don't like the way their support has handled the recent events that have happened (DNS issues etc.). There are a bit to many recent complaints... One or two is fine, but this many!!
Third, I find it a bit weird that Steve the owner answers all my mails and gives support to everyone, surely they should also have some other qualified people there!
Fourth, They seem to be having way to many network attacks!!!!!!! What is up with this aren't they using any firewalls? As a customer I don't think anyone should accept downtime unless it's your own fault.

One thing that surprised me with Rackshack is that if you use their online chat service you will be taken well care of. When I was logged on there yesterday and a few days ago, there was two tech support guys, two customer service people, two sales people, and a few others. Very impressive!!

I can't say that the same thing will not happen to rackshack, but it still looks good...

Just my input...

I believe rackshack.net is owned by ev1.net and I think the later has been around for quite a while. I really would love to try them if not that they only offer Raqs.

4webspace support - I bet if you went around every customer they had and asked for negative and positive reviews on support there would be a lot more positive reviews. Every problem we've had they have resolved or given us hints and tips on how to fix things up. Steve has got to be one of the best CEO's around. He has qualified staff on board who are trained to deal with things and yet he still gets involed and helps with support can u see the CEO of Verio doing something like that?

Even steve has admitted his staff and himself didnt handle the dns problem as good as they could of and admitted this in public.

Surfer if your the same one from 4webspace.com's forum you will know that steve is working on the connection to the servers. Rackshack are a smaller company than 4webspace/tera-byte so yeah at times the rackshack support and customer service people will be able to login to the chat for longer periods of time. I can't get into the irc chat on 4webspace.com so dont know if they have techs logged in. But Robert from dim8 whos on my server says they have techs logged in over the weekend which is also a good sign.

I understand you may not want 4webspace tobe ur provider i'm just trying to put accross that 4webspace arent a bad company and do care about there customers.

I believe both companies are excellent. Why? the're the cheapest dedicated server around with the highest bandwidth allocation and probably with the best customer service. What more do you need?

Which one is the best? Hard to tell follow ur heart thats what I say.

I still can recommend 4webspace. I think they have grown too fast, had too many problems which were not their fault (network attacks, bind issue etc.), but I think they will restore their very good and fast customer support pretty soon. If you read postings on this board and on http://www.4webspace.com/forum steve or one of his staff responds pretty quickly to all postings, give an explanation and I have the feeling they really care about the customer - they spend a lot of times on these boards. the dns issue still does not satisfy me, but there is not a lot I can do about it.

so go for it! it's the money worth.

:D

I am not saying that 4webspace is a bad company!!
I think what they offer is great!!! I am just commenting on some things that I have noticed.
I still havn't decided which one to use? With Rackshack I get a RAQ4 which is great, but I havn't heard that much about them. With 4webspace I have heard a lot of good things... I might go with 4webspace and see how it goes since they have no setup fee, if I am not satisfied I can then go with Rackshack. The good thing with these two comapnies is that they don't require any contracts!!

I don't get it too why sprintlink isn't the main provider. no matter, it always goes through sprintlink (from the us, europe and asia).

and the number of hops is amazing.

Just wondering if Surfer, Liteoff or any of the other guys who were considering rackshack.net actually signed up..?

If yes, how long did it take for the server to be set-up and available for you to use and what is your verdict on the company so far..?

I have a site that pulls 70-100 thousand pageviews per month (with a busy Ikonboard forum - 3000 members) and was wondering if this RAQ4 with 256MB ram would be able to cope, if would be better off splitting it into 2 cheaper RAQ3 servers one to serve the graphics (about 1 gig per day) and the other for the html and php pages (1.5-2 gig per day).

Lets hear from you :)

If you want to see the prices including TAX, click on the main order button on the page, I think it all came up to $376.

Phiberop...

Check out this thread in the dedicated RAQ section, as its from 2 guys that just signed up with them a week ago and has some great info in it, as well as being a good place to add your comments so as to build up a good profile for other RAQ rookies.

I will be signing up with RS later this week and it would be great for us newbies to share info as we get used to the servers..?
