View Full Version : Odd link in HC

I'm sitting here right watching someone on my site. The only thing is the link is this:
file:///C:/Program%20Files/Microsoft%20FrontPage/temp/pvw26.htm

Anyone ever got one like that? I'm guessing someone is copying my site and hasn't noticed the human click links at the bottom of each page. :)

The page titles are different and resolves to an actual domain name (a hosting company). I might check back there in a few days to see if they have a 'new and improved' website...

Greg:
What you are saying is true.

Someone has copied your site and is testing it out in their browser. They are not aware fo the human click. That path name is the path on their computer where your web page is being loaded from.

Notice, they probably went to your site and clicked on edit the page with Frontpage.

Michael,

Thanks for the confirmation. I suppose if nothing else, if those tags aren't removed I'll be able to see how much traffic they get through their site *lol*

Hey, if I can get a box to pop-up I'll be able to mention to their customers they stole the site and they should check out the original *evil grin*

Looks like someone else has a local copy of my site with the human click tag still attached.

file:///C|/WebSites/NicePages/akashik_net - webhosting, design, e-commerce, resources.htm

At least they seem to think it's a nice page *grin*

You know you're good, when people save a copy for faster access.

I am not really sure what you are talking about but if it is copying a page to read offline, I have done that numerous times.

projo,

Yes, it's what happens when someone copies a page to view offline and doesn't remove the human click tag from the bottom. It still calls to the owner, but instead of showing a page on the domain, tags it as C:\*whatever*

Thanks. I was not aware of this service. I just looked at the humanclick site (getting the url from your page's source).

I continue to be impressed with how the web develops.

projo,

It's great little service. We're thinking of upgrading to a paid version of it shortly, as it earns us more through sales than it will cost per month. Takes a while to set the tags on each and every page of your current site but it's an education on where people go :)

Chicken,

Actually I was laughing my ass off when I read the link :) Kudos!

Greg,

Thanks for posting this. I saw this once on my human click and could not for the life of me figure out what it meant.

Marty,

No problem.. As you can see by the thread starter I wasn't too sure myself the first time I saw it :) Looks like we both learnt something...

Yep, there are quite a few bugs in HC. The one that drives me absolutely batty is the Netscape bug that dings you every 10 seconds and shows up in the control panel. You gotta turn your speakers off!

Michael,

I think that's everyone's pet peeve with Human Click. I average about 2-3 a week. It can be almost guaranteed to happen right in the middle of something important too *lol*, like trying to think of a site design, or talking to a client with a difficult problem. Just the time you want to get Ding-Dong every 10 seconds or so...
