View Full Version : Dedicated server in Asia
Hi,
I need a dedicated server in Asia. I am looking for some good host with low rates like $99 or less (no set-up) deals. Server must be located in some Asian country.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Umesh
AntiSpamHosts 08-04-2002, 12:23 AM Why must it be in Asia? Is this all legal?
Or is that where you and your clients are located?
Me and all my clients are Asian...

mushrew 08-04-2002, 12:28 AM It seems that everytime somebody asks for a dedicated server in Asia people start mentioning the issue of legality and "warez". Go figure.
frnht451 08-04-2002, 01:08 AM Think it's going to be tricky to find anywhere with $99 type deals or even close, that's pretty much a US phenonemon.
Could have a look at http://www.webvisions.com/dedicatedservers/ I've had shared hosting with them since pretty much forever (well 1997 anyway) and they've always been great.
Haven't asked after their dedicated prices recently but suspect they're way more than $99.
Do you actually need dedicated rather than shared?
If so, probably your best bet is to do speed tests on a load of US servers and just take whichever's fastest.
(heh, how's this for useless help :)

MegaNetServe 08-04-2002, 03:35 AM Which country in Asia are you, your customers and their audience located?
Even if you find a hoster in an Asia, unless they are located in your own country, you may find that your latency and ping time to that country may be longer than that of to a provider in US. Simple fact that still lot of asian countries (at least partially) rely on satellite links for their Gateway. If you can find a provider within your own country you may be better of. But as far as I know, $99 pricing don't exist very many places outside US.
seg fault 08-04-2002, 09:08 AM www.d1asia.com - prolly twice the price of the USA

they offer unlimited bandwidth on their colocation plans... sounds fishy ;)
hehe j/k
apollo 08-04-2002, 01:32 PM I suggest you go with a company located West Coast in USA.
1.) low latency and better speeds with Asia
2.) competitive price
inquisitive 08-04-2002, 03:05 PM UKA, your name suggests you are from India..If its so then I suggest your best Bet is to go and COLO a server with VSNL DC. Their's none other good & reasonable option in India for this. If you plan to go with any South East Asian DC then I suggest you to go with US provider rather you'll find that the ping from India of US based servers are faster than South East Asian DC's.
jayglate 08-05-2002, 12:13 AM Flyinghosts i think has great pricing on hong kong based ded servers in the price range you are looking in.
frnht451 08-05-2002, 12:16 AM Saves all them nasty support problems caused by using servers that are alive I guess :]

There are more provider in India now offering very good and reliable dedicated hosting.
You may also consider
http://www.satyamhosting.com
http://www.net4india.com
these providers are also good along with vsnl.
But I have noticed many times if I connect to Delhi based vsnl datacenter from my bombay based connection it goes through london or new york root which again makes it longer route for average visitor unless the visitors are not comming from same isp
Also the price for 1 gb of transfer costs around $20-$30 / GB :eek3: so forget about $99 / month price if you dream about hosting your server in india because colo price also goes much higher then this (around $200-$300 per month) :o
HongKong and China are also best choices

Hi Mahinder,
I used Satyam's hosting and found their tech support a bunch of monkeys . Support is ridiculous plus you'll find that your site won't open at with connection of some Local ISP's ..Their ISP division blocked the IP range of one of Local ISP in my city due to competition and later the Local ISP bloacked their IP range :D Now when you try sites hosted on Satyam servers with some other ISP connections you'll find it works dead slow..
Net4india has a different set of problem..they sell leased lines/ and Internet connections and don't even have much of free bandwidth..at times they become dead slow....Their are again many DC's in India including Intelonline,Enrononline,Cyquater, and Reliance..but I'm still not convinced with anyone other than VSNL..
mahinder 08-06-2002, 04:24 AM BTW, I have never hosted my server in India because I don't want to keep my bread and butter on bunch of monkeys and babus of vsnl working under corrupt government.
Also, Now india have cyber laws and you can not host illegal contents on servers within india.
zhaozilong 08-06-2002, 06:21 AM I will say server located in Houston with a good speed to HK.
If you have to focus your market at HK.Try to find server which is located in Houston.
Yes, BW prices are very expensive in Asia as good connections are not available very much. Most of the connections are via satellite with uptime of about 99%. Satellite BW is very expensive.
As I am aware big part of the india's BW is via satellite links.
Forgot $99 sheme.

kamtra 08-06-2002, 09:00 PM I just tried the net4india.com site to see what they're about. It took I think 30 seconds to load the page. Do you think they're logging on with AOL? IOL?
