View Full Version : How do I pull this off?

I was recently looking over a friend's shoulder and saw that he was using an online version of Outlook. I have my own RH server and I have a W2K server in my house and will soon be going to college where it will have a decent connection (its just my stuff) and I'm wondering how I can set this up.

I'd like to be able to continue to use Outlook because I like its interface, but I'm also interested in LDAP which I know is an open source standard. How can I tie in all three of these to manage my contacts and email seamlessly over the internet?

I'm going to be doing this mostly for the cool factor but any help would be appreciated!

Outlook Web Access (OWA)

I believe you need a MS Exchange 2000 server to run this.

Yes, you need an MS Exchange server. I was at a Microsoft event a while back when they had a seminar on configuring MS Exchange and they had a demonstration of OWA.

I was quite impressed by it, although because it is specific to Exchange, we can't use it.

So is exchange something that is part of IIS? or is it a separate product I'd have to purchase.

Exchange is not a part of IIS. It is a completely separate (and expensive!) program.

Exchange is a really good mail server, it will just fill up any server you throw at it though :D

If you want something thats LIKE OE:

It hasn't been updated in awhile so...
