View Full Version : Subdomains and JSP Hosting

I'm currently using Pegasus Web Technologies as my web hosting company and I've been satisfied with their service until now.

I've purchased a second domain (for my wife) and they not only do not allow subdomains, their phone and email support people would not even attempt to give me any alternatives to using my second domain - other than rudely repeating the fact that they dont allow subdomains. I'm not sure if they are so stupid they can't even THINK of any alternatives (wow - like maybe a second lower level account and paying for extra space or something - i thought of that and I dont even work there) or what.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a company (who's tech/support people can actually answer a question with something more than simple 5-word sentences I can read from their web site) who offers subdomains or SOMETHING so I dont have to pay $20/mo x 2 accounts for accounts which dont hog lots of bandwidth (and may possibly support JSP) ?

Thanks,

- Brent

We don't offer subdomains, for our shared hosting plans, I am not sure how more complex I can make a simple answer. It is not the way our security is structured on our servers. And it is not something we do. Alot of other companies mostly the ones who use cpanel do offer subdomains. But as I said and our webpage says, it is not part of the hosting package. If you want a long drawn out answer why we don't offer it, you just read it.

If you would like I can reconmend a few hosts on this board you can use if you want sub domains.

I wasn't necessarily looking for any long drawn out explanation as to why you don't offer subdomains. I understood that fact when I was told it in the beginning. What I wanted was some possible alternative do get what I wanted done (a second domain that I can actually use) - e.g.

* possibly purchasing a second account at lower basic account rates and increasing the storage
* modifying the quota for a second lower rate account to allow more access for that account, and possibly less for mine - I obviously dont use anywhere near my 200MB quota

I don't know what sort of alternatives someone could have offered for a 2+ year customer - but someone could said something other than "we dont offer subdomains".

If I have to - I'll purchase 2 web hosting accounts (from what company I dont know) - I just wanted to know if I had any other options (other than using another company which could be a pain if it takes a while to propogate a DNS change to other servers).

Give me a call, and I will see what I can do for you, since your a 2 + year customer, and we value such long standing customers. Our very first client is still with us after all this time.

When would be a good time I can call to get this resolved? It's not a high priority now but will be in a couple of weeks so I'd like to go ahead and see what other options I have with Pegasus - or whether I should continue a search for another hosting company.

Also, if anyone else is interested I did get a few other responses from companies and individuals.. you can check out http://www.sierrahost.com (which does not yet support JSP), or http://www.superb.net (which has a cool idea behind a base fee per month, then extras for whatever addons you want - like JSP).

But on Pegasus' behalf - in the two years I have been with them I've had no serious problems with outages or anything (other than a little email glitch for a couple weeks about 8 months or so ago).
