Using Pidgin as my IM client, I came across hab.la, which allows you to place a small piece of javascript on your site, and allow visitors to IM you. It's all entirely free, which I enjoy greatly.

What are your thoughts though? Does it lack professionalism?

I've added it to our site, and I like how it fits in. However, I think there are some downsides as it doesn't allow you to identify the potential customer. As well, I don't think it's nearly as professional as a client like LivePerson.

Thansk for the heads up! I just used it on your site. ;)

hah, I'll have to remember not to get up from my seat at the desk so all the WHT users can try it out.

Nice little tool, not sure it's right for business, but would be nice for non-biz sites.

I kinda' like it. Way better than having a popup "click here to chat with our representative". So what if it's free. Lots of businesses use the free IM methods. :)

If I get it right, it shows up on the site only when you're online.

I will show its limitations once the company grows beyond a certain point though.

Nice tool, I use pidgin as well, but if you use skype, there is this another tool called www.sky-click.com that enables you to place a button on your website, and your customers can be called back on their skype and phone, similar but I guess better.

We use Liveperson on our web hosting site www.m2mhost.com, since we provide chat, and it does help in sales and support.
