View Full Version : Domain transfer problem
Maldiv_f 11-10-2007, 03:25 AM Hello,
I have a domain registered at Ev1servers.net and now I want to transfer it to domainsite. I have filled out a transfer request form at DomainSite, filled out the auth code and sended the request.
Now the transfer status panel shows the followings:
Losing Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Registrar Query Attempts: 0
Registry Status: OK
Status: acquiring admin email address (1)
I don't know what this status message regarding the admin email means?
Here I have to say 2 more probably important thing:
1. I have checked the old admin email at Ev1servers and it was set to an old, not more existing email. Now I have changed it to a valid one.
2. The domain will expire at November 11. I don't want any downtime. Should I renew the domain at Ev1servers? From Domainsite I got a message that they charged my credit card for the transfer.
So what to do next?
How long does it take a domain transfer? DomainSite says maximum 6 day. I hope it can be faster.
Thanks,
Maldiv
Lubeca 11-10-2007, 05:13 AM I would wait until this evening - and then renew with the existing registrar (unless the transfer has completed in the meantime). You don't lose anything by doing this.
Transfers can be completed in as little as a few hours - but this depends on the losing registrar.
When a registrar receives a transfer-out request they can do one of three things:
- refuse it (if there is a reason to do so)
- actively release the domain to the gaining registrar
- do nothing
If they do nothing then the domain gets transferred automatically a certain number of days (I think it's five) after the transfer was requested.
So - if the losing registrar actively releases the domain then the transfer will complete in a few hours. If they don't it will take about a week in total.
Vrindavan 11-10-2007, 05:32 AM >> I think it's five
including weekends and public holidays ?
Vrindavan 11-10-2007, 05:38 AM >> transfer-out request
this will be done automatically by the gaining registrar after you submited online order and check out ?
Or still require a real human staff to review the order and do it manually for each customer ??
Because i have a Paypal check out problem holding my transaction not going through, and i have contact them via email , still no reply for more than one day, and now is weekend period
details see recent posts here

i worry this will delay the process much longer
Lubeca 11-10-2007, 06:35 AM I believe it's five days, not five working days - as it's an automated process (i.e., the clock starts when the request is submitted). In any case - whose public holidays, whose week-ends? The day of rest is Sunday in Christian countries, Friday in Muslim ones and Saturday in Israel.
If you have additional issues then I suspect the transfer won't even have been initiated yet (i.e., the clock won't have started) so you should definitely renew with the existing registrar. You won't lose anything, you are just adding another year. Renewals and transfers each add a year to a registration, so when the transfer is complete your domain will be renewed to 2009 instead of 2008.
Bashar 11-10-2007, 10:17 PM if you approve the transfer request before expiration, usually it will be transferred
@Lubeca, actually clock starts when the request is approved by the registrant/administrative contact
Vrindavan 11-10-2007, 11:17 PM i want to move host before Nov 21 too,
not just registrar
one of my domains is provided free with my existing host
it is a bit lack of time if domaincentral did not get back to answer my email soon
if there is a delay,
i might have to stuck with existing web host for one more year, they only have one year payment plan
The worse case is if they do not reply me later at all
i have to file the case to Paypal and try to get my money back too
Lubeca 11-11-2007, 04:45 AM You don't have to change registrars AT ALL if you just want to move to a different hosting company.
Registration and hosting are two entirely separate things (which some providers just happen to sell as a bundle).
If you want to change hosting companies just go into the control with your current registrar and change your servers to those of the new company.
Vrindavan 11-12-2007, 12:26 AM from new registrar account area :
Could not Fetch Current Administrative Contact Email Address. Will attempt again every hour
what would be the likely reason for this ?
- i have given EPP code
- domain is set to unlock
- this domain is the one provided free from my existing webhost
- "who is record" can show Administrative Contact Email
Then why this error will appear ?

you can contact support to enter the data manually, or wait for few till the system automatically fetch the data
it happens sometimes when the system is unable to fetch the admin contact
Vrindavan 11-12-2007, 07:10 AM >> contact support to enter the data manually
contacted them via email right away,
not sure if another one day or more delay is enough for them to take care of my case
now the status still shows cannot fetch the admin email
Vrindavan 11-12-2007, 08:50 PM Today i finally got the "transfer approval confirm email" sent to the admin email address
i click the confirm link immediately
Error
[r4] Error Message: Invalid URL
i have make sure the URL is not break,
paste in one whole line
oh my God, why so many problems ?
i forward the approval email to the gaining registrar again and have to wait the support for another day
