View Full Version : Moniker Adding More Security With Expiring Passwords
MyNet-Tony 11-09-2007, 06:52 PM Moniker just sent out an email about new security enhancements, all ok except for the passwords will now expire one. I hate that. I just decided to move all my domains to Moniker, but not anymore. I hate passwords that expire. It is a stupid enhancement. And I hate having to think of new passwords every few months. This should be opt-in and not mandatory. I know its good for security, but it is just a waste of time.
Oh well, anyone have any suggestions for a good place to keep my domains. I hate GoDaddy and enom is too expensive unless I deposit $100 at a time . . . which I'd rather not do.
Aorozco 11-09-2007, 07:39 PM domaincentral.com or dynadot.com ( but have the bulk price problem. )

Why not let them know? I'm doing that shortly.
MyNet-Tony 11-09-2007, 10:59 PM Are you just going to email support? I wasn't sure who to address, but I knew they read the forums. Plus do they really care? And it sounds trivial, but I don't want to have to deal with thinking up new passwords every few months. The computers at work are setup that way and I absolutely hate it.
steventay 11-10-2007, 02:18 AM search for CN or crucialnames in this forum
they are enom ETP and you can get domain at $6.95/yr

That's a question only you can decide the answer on. But you can PM MonikerMaurie (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?find=lastposter&t=541530).
I wouldn't mind expiring passwords if THEY automatically generated a new one and sent it to my email.
I use different passwords over different sites, and I really don't want to write down each new moniker password every now and then.
If it was automatic I wouldn't mind, cuz then I could just check newest email and tada.
RossH 11-10-2007, 07:03 PM Well, I don't really like the idea of expiring passwords either. I use randomly generated 12 character passwords that are stored in keepass so I don't think anyone will be hacking my account. However if they offered it as a feature it wouldn't bother me.
MyNet-Tony 11-10-2007, 09:08 PM I wouldn't care if it was an option, I just don't like being forced to use it. I hate that.
HostVillage Sales 11-11-2007, 05:47 PM I'm still neutral on this but if you want to contact Monte, Moniker's CEO, email him @ monte[at]moniker.com
nameslave 11-16-2007, 09:29 AM Thanks for the heads up. I have just transferred my last domains away.
steventay 11-16-2007, 10:31 AM i have transfer all my domain out of Moniker
hekwu 11-16-2007, 06:59 PM I only have one account that does this and it is a merchant account... although, I change my passwords every so often anyway. No biggie with them wanting to change the passwords, but I think more people will actually write down the passwords now, instead of knowing one complex password that they use for most sites such as moniker.
Aorozco 11-16-2007, 10:25 PM Strange i hav around 60 Domains with them and no notice yet.
What would really enhance security for the login aspect to the domain interface in my opinion is to have a Secure ID token for customers. I agree, expiring passwords, by themselves are a waste of time. If you have a secure id token, it makes so much more sense.

I think that is pretty silly of you considering they are practically the best registrar out there.
steventay 11-19-2007, 10:48 AM i don't seem the benefit of moniker.... and i have also move out all my domain from moniker

That is YOUR take, but then I won't call it stupid.
