Well, today I logged into namecheap to check on my domain(s) and to purchase a new one, when I noticed that the account had went from 3 domains to 1.

Did a whois on my "ex"domains and it seems as if they've been sold, or transfered to someone else without my permission. Seems as if I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Any decent trustworthy registrars out there still?

Hey --

I know NameCheap has a listing service in their panel where you can list a domain for sale. If it is listed for sale and actually bought by another NC user, then it is transferred out of your account into the other parties account.

They also deposit the money into your NC account for you.

Before you do anything, raise a ticket with them. Their support is usually very quick.

(Also check your balance to see if you accidentially listed those names for sale and had them sold. In this case you would see an increase in the $ balance you have on file).

At any rate, NC is usually spot on. I would contact them first.

You sure they didn't just expire? What are the domains?

Yeah, theres an increase in my NC balance, but the problem is, why would I sell two domains that I still use? I didn't put them in the marketplace for sure.

May be just an oversight then. I would get ahold of them first as they will be the only folks that can help you out at this point. Sounds like they got sold, possibly by accident. Hope everything works out for you!

Mr Obvious,

The best thing for you to do is submit a ticket that way we can investigate this for you. At the very least give us a chance to look into it before jumping to conclusions.

We would not just sell your domains out from under you or place them in our marketplace without your consent. Any domain listed in the market place is done so manually via your control panel.

I don't know what is going on today. Someone else accused us of stealing money from their paypal account earlier here http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=647355&highlight=namecheap without even emailing our support first.

Obviously that turned out to be a false claim.

Seems as if my buddy thought it'd be funny to sell my domains..lol. I got a friend to injure now, (he sneeked on my computer..if you were wondering)

Nothing to blame on NameCheap, just was a lil mad when writing :) Alls well now!

My favourite is optinom.com, never have any problem with them, standard price and free whois protection.

That's a bit extreme for your friend! My friends wouldn't know what a domain is, so they wouldn't get close to doing that, they would stay well away! I really wouldn't have friends that sell away domains that are valuable though obviously :stickout: I guess your friend didn't realize this domain was of value to your business?! Bad luck mate :o

I figured that it would have been very strange for NameCheap to do such a thing w/o your permission. I have used them personally for a few years now and have nothing but excellent things to say about them. Furthermore they are a partner we know and trust, so I know you are in good hands with them.

It's always good to open a ticket first as it's the quicket way to resolution. Also, even if there is some doubt...it's hard to retract statements about an honest company after the fact because some people read only part of the thread and get the wrong impression. That's why contacting support before you do anything saves everyone time and headaches.

Glad you figured out what happened! Also hope you can get your names back.

Good luck!

Sean

WOW - if that was a major business domain sold for kicks - you best believe friend or not - there would be a few lawyers involved to compensate any loss. You would find me in a year's time with bling out the wah'zoo. (painful thought)
