secludo 08-03-2002, 03:08 PM I played the clarinet in Elementary school for 2 years... probably would have continued, but the 3rd year my original teacher left and the new guy was a complete ass, it ended up where just about everyone quit because he was so mean.

I still play it every now and then when I get time, but I don't play it as often as I like to.

esdjco 08-03-2002, 09:29 PM Clarinet when I was in Junio High ---
Electric guitar and 2 turntables if you can call that an instrument. Its pretty hard to beatmatch and transitioning so DJing isn't as easy as it looks! ;-)

Harmonica
Trumpet
Bass Guitar
Guitar
Those are in order form least experience to most, I currently only have time for guitar, but enjoy all musical instruments. THe next instrument I want to learn is Alto. Sax :)

Santoman 08-03-2002, 10:55 PM I started in Elementry School playing trumpet. Still got it! :)
Then in 6th grade, I busted up my lip playing football in the backyard, so I switched to baritone.
Then in 9th grade, I picked up the guitar. Chicks digged it. :)
Since then, I've played rhythm guitar, bass guitar, accoustic guitar.
Being now in my late thirty's and with a wonderful son, he's starting 4th grade this fall... He's going to play sax. Mostly because I want to play sax... :) The one instrument I never got to play, but always wanted to.
Oh, and a little piano, and of course, I can always fill in for a drummer...
Steve

shaunewing 08-04-2002, 01:14 AM I think we should all get together and form the WHT Band :D (or orchestra :))
--Shaun
IGobyTerry 08-04-2002, 01:36 AM I haven't had any real interest in playing an musical instrument. Actually I hate our school band. The jerks kept me awake in study hall for a week cause they got moved to the room next door because of someone else using the regular band room.
DanielP 08-04-2002, 01:50 AM I enjoyed the years I was in Concert/Marching band (ok fine I hated band camp where I had to march my ass off )
But there's just something about creating music from what would seem chaos has a magical appeal to it....
But then again the years I was in the school band we hardly ever lost so that helped ^_^
cperciva 08-04-2002, 02:26 AM Violin, 17 years. Non-professional by choice.:D
NetXL 08-04-2002, 02:46 AM I play the guitar.

The WHT banned, more likely :D
Actually, you'd be surprised how you easily you can form a band or orchestra at your workplace, particularly if you work at a place with >15 employees. ;)
At my first job, at one point we had about 35 employees (this was a dot.com before it folded) and over half of us could play an instrument, to the point where we seriously considered forming a jazz band.
As for myself, piano/trumpet/percussion/timpanis are my fortes, and I'm aiming to learn the cello next. ;) Also play in two orchestras (including one of the state orchestras). Been classically trained at University as well, but like cpervica, non-professional by choice. :D

Band, yes. Orchestra, no.
An orchestra is much more structured than a band... you can throw together pretty much any combination of instruments and create a band, while an orchestra has certain fixed requirements. At an absolute minimum, four violins, two violas, two cellos, two each of flute, oboe, and clarinet, and a conductor. And they all have to be at somewhere close to the same level, since -- in orchestra -- you can't just decide that you don't want to play any solos.
Oxford has about 20 thousand students and a dozen orchestras; I doubt there are many places in the world which come even close to that ratio. I'd be surprised if any company (excepting those with a musical connection) with less than two thousand people could put together an orchestra.
Rewdog 08-04-2002, 12:55 PM I used to play the trumpet, I play quite a bit of piano (Started when I was 5). Found a guitar in my Grandma's attict and I've always wanted to play one so I'm trying to teach myself that :). I also can do a bit of mouth drumming, and I can play both my armpits and kneepits. :-D

Your a one man band...without any kit.
I can play certain people like a well tuned old fiddle.
Simon
I play the piano, guitar and drums (drum set, marching snare drums, bass drum, cymbals, timbali, etc.) - but sadly haven't got that much time for it anymore :-(
edude 08-04-2002, 05:14 PM Piano :)
tazd9t9 08-04-2002, 05:23 PM we really should form a band, maybe have divisions lol US, UK AU etc
zsindhu 08-04-2002, 05:54 PM I really enjoy playing the flute :)
WoodShedd 08-04-2002, 09:23 PM I play Piano (since I was 4) as well as the bass and the trombone.
I can play the guitar a little bit, but not really that well.
Here is a bit of a sample of some of our band's stuff
http://ihate.allfeminism.com/e/clips.htm I could have uploaded more, but my connection is too slow for this kind of stuff
I play the piano and organ. I serve as the organist at my church.
There's nothing like having the power of 5 manuals, 205 ranks and 16,000 pipes under your fingertips.
Tux-e-do 08-04-2002, 10:30 PM I play with my wifes instrument :D
Err thats the piano ;)

Not that's power.
I was the organist at my church when I was a kid, and mine only had 3 manuals. It was a lot of fun to play. Great sound in that great big church! Ahh, the good old days...:)
jeellison 08-05-2002, 05:51 AM I can play the triangle like no-one else can.
but mainly the piano and guitar.
Reptilian Feline 08-05-2002, 07:59 AM Well... I'm a singer, and when I practise I'm pretty good at the piano. I can play a little guitar if I cut my nails, I'm better at the 3/4 bass (electric, and I have small fingers), I can keep a beat at the drums, but fills... no, I'm pretty good at the recorder, but only the soprano and piccolo because the others are too big (did I mention my small fingers?). I can also play a little on the flute, get a desent sound out of a violine (don't play it though), I've got one harmonica.
I also write music and record it on my computer where I have a full orcestra at my disposal.:)
