Hi. I'm looking to move my site (tubescan.com) and I came across Ventures Online. Their prices seem really reasonable, and they use the same CP as our current host, so my somewhat-technically-inept co-webmaster would be able to pick it up quickly. :) I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them, good or bad. How is their uptime, and how is their tech support? Thanks for your input. ;)

BTW, I looked at HostRocket, FutureQuest, and Terabyte, and none of them really have the particular group of features we want. If anyone has any suggestions for other hosts (we need at least 200 MB, at least 3 MySQL db's, at least 20 subdomains, 4gb transfer), please by all means let me know.

Thanks, folks :)

Hi there,

I transferred to VO in early February. I have two V3's, a V2 and a V1 with them. Also have personalized nameservers. I have a reseller account so use both the CPanel and the Web Hosting Mgr Panel.

I have been very pleased with my service thus far.

1. Server is zippy & in my experience has been properly configured. Nothing has been broken. When I click on something, it works, without fail. I cannot say this about my experiences with other hosts.

2. Support is zippy. All questions have been answered in less than 10 minutes, via e-mail and/or ICQ. When I don't understand something, Paul is really nice and explains. :) My questions have been more about my lack of experience, and are not a reflection of service or support.

3. The one time I did need something tweaked, it was fixed in about 5 minutes. :)

4. Connection has seemed solid. I have been watching it and have not yet experienced any downtime, that has been reported to me by my customers or that I have noticed. Everything has been fast and stable thus far.

5. FAQs/Support: There was another post on the board about a customer who chose a different web host and was displeased about the fact there was little documentation, and was there somewhere he could find more info..... Ventures has a very nice FAQs section and anything not answered there has been answered by Paul, for me. I had some very specific questions which I would not expect in a FAQ and was impressed that Paul had the answers at his fingertips.

6. Daniel is, I believe, one of the developers working on CPanel. I don't know if you noticed but we're at CPanel 3.7. I would imagine we can plan on having the most recent versions of CPanel when available and I am aware of Daniel working on immediate tech resolutions when issues have come up, as they might relate to CPanel.

Anyway I've been very pleased with the service and the hardware performance. I would not have any hesitation recommending VO to you, based on my experience to date.

Good luck in your search! :D

I've only been with them a few days, and I'm already glad I moved. I signed up pretty late, around 10 pm pacific time. About ten minutes later, I got a phone call from Paul. He explained that I'd made a mistake on my email address, and so the signup email couldn't reach me (my mistake - I used an address in the domain I was moving, despite clear instructions on the online form not to... doh!). He forwarded the email to an alternate email address I provided, and I had my site uploaded & live 20 minutes later (I use ZoneEdit.com, so I don't have to wait for DNS changes to propogate).

What impressed me was that a problem was caught and action taken to correct it before I'd realized it had happened. Contrast this with two previous hosts who still wouldn't have fixed something after several days, despite me explaining exactly what was wrong and how to correct it (I'm a linux developer in my day job...)

I've had only one minor snafu since. It wasn't fixed in ten minutes as Bailey experienced, but it was within a few hours, and it wasn't that big a deal (the control panel function for resetting the CGI counters was broken). If anything, it just indicates that they know how to prioritize.

No downtime yet. The servers seem pretty responsive, the only times I've seen sluggishness it's not been due to any delays at their end (usually net congestion near mine - a downside of being in silicon valley).

So far, things are looking very good...

I think we're gonna go with them. Between this positive response, and Daniel's willingness to answer questions before I even asked them yesterday :), and the way the 4th package is setup, it seems perfect.

Thanks for your help, guys! ;)

I can also recommend Venturesonline fully - I have been with them for a month now (and was with Daniel when he was at UltraSpeed USA too) and everything has worked amazingly well...
