If someone who has an account on the server using our domain emails them, they go through fine, but forgot password emails that are dynamically generated will not go to these email address. I'm positive there was no spam sent from this server, it is only our website on it. Can anyone help me as to what I need to do?

I have a similiar problem with mail from my server to YAHOO e-mail addresses, which are continuously being "temporarily deferred" and I'm still waiting for YAHOO to give me a response to my questions.

As for AOL :puke:

I guess this thread actually belongs on the technical forum.

Jhorra, have you checked your mail logs to see if there is some specific error message being reported for the messages that do not go through? It's hard to resolve the issue without having seen the logs but, as a guess, perhaps the problem is with the "From" address for the dynamically generated emails. For example, if the "From" address is an address at a non-existent domain name then that could be the cause.

MYIGIS, it sounds like you may have a spam problem with your server, or perhaps one or more of your customers is forwarding messages through your server to their Yahoo account(s) and then reporting some of the messages as spam, resulting in Yahoo thinking that your server is actually a source of spam and therefore blocking your IP.

Hi talkntickets,

Thanks for that, I'm thinking the same, although I maintain a twice daily check on mail logs and I have not found anything to indicate a problem. Mail to YAHOO is eventually delivered, but can take a while. I shall just have to wait to hear from YAHOO to find out what's happening.

Thanks Again!

Deferrals may be a case of yahoo! adopting the practice of greylisting.

Hi plumsauce,

Thanks for that! I've not come across "greylisting" before but a quick google search for "yahoo greylisting" confirmed there's a lot of it about.

If they don't sort it out Yahoo will go down the PAN!

Thanks Again!

Unfortunately, realistically, Yahoo will be just fine.
It's your customers who will continue to blame you and just move on to someone else they believe won't (or who doesn't) have the problem.

They can find another host easily. Giving up their email address they could have had for a dozen years and an interface they are used to is much more unlikely to happen.

The most obvious step in solving email problems to Hotmail or Yahoo or GMail is to make sure your domains have good SPF records.

We served a client a while ago at WHT with similar issues (though he ran of without paying).

Anyhow, I would suggest making sure these are all done:

1. OpenSPF Records
2. Domainkey Records
3. Addition to SenderID Policy (Hotmail)
4. RDNS

If you still have issues after 1 week of the above 4, contact the email provider (hotmail or yahoo) and ask for the reason of being in the junk or not reaching. They have a toll free number you can call in the USA as well (Hotmail/AOL).

Never too late to call and check :)
