well I got a design job to get a clothing company up and running and I need a ecommerce thats flexible in the sense that I can do a design and have it inter grated into the system and can be easy to manage/ Good Security and you know the rest.

I dont mind if I have to get a license for it.

When you say e-commerce type system - are you referring to an electronic payment gateway and a merchant account / Internet Payment Service Provider (IPSP) or a shopping cart?

If it is an electronic payment gateway and a merchant account / IPSP, you should let your client determine that. Unfortunately you will get some advice in here, but for something of this magnitude, you don't want to be offering advice for this without fully understanding an electronic payment gateway and a merchant account / IPSP.

Now, if it is a shopping cart - then what language and databases are you looking for?

A shopping car is what IM talking about.

I dont really have one in general

just one that is easy to maintain and user friendly with good security etc.

Try Avactis shopping cart (http://www.avactis.com). It support product options for the clothing store.

Avactis has very clean backend, easy to use and customize storefron and probably your customer like it.

Another vote for Avactis :) it will do exactly what you need, design-wise.

Visit their site and go into their online documentation; is it beautifully documented. You can easily take your existing design and then just plug in the shopping cart tags. :) Every tag has been fully explained, there are screenshots to show each concept, and you can download sample templates.

It's absolutely phenomenal, from a design standpoint. :gthumb:

Also take a look at CubeCart, ZenCart or OSCommerce, there are plenty of options.

OSCommerce is not easy to template or maintain, and it has far fewer features than Avactis. The OP will need to hand-code multiple plugins into his OSC in order to equal the basic functions of Avactis... and then upgrading/patching his OSC cart becomes a nightmare (because upgrades/patches will break his mods).

Approach every cart very critically as you look at it. A blanket recommendation suggesting the most common carts is not the best advice. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten up to my eyeballs in a cart only to discover it was hard to maintain or didn't handle things exactly as I had really wanted. The net result is a huge waste of time.......... so spend the time up-front really picking apart the options so do you truly pick the best one for you.
