I am looking for a .Net host with at least sql express . I want to start with shared hosting or a Managed VPS then maybe go to dedicated ..
I have read a lot of posts but peoples sentiments change all the time so can anyone suggest a reliable host .
Can you also tell me who not to go with ...

I would stay away from GoDaddy. Other than that (in no particular order):
JodoHost.com
Crystaltech.com
ActiveHost.com
AppliedI.net
Discountasp.net
HostMySite.com

I have used http://www.premiumreseller.com & http://www.resellerguru.com and found them to be satisfactory.
Then http://www.cartikahosting.com & http://www.jodohost.com has got good reputation here on WHT, though I don't have direct experience with them.

Crystaltech and discountasp are both very good hosts. They both release the newest technologies quickly and have the knowledge to back up their services.

Perhas you can give Intermedia.Net a try. I've heard good things about them. Mostly about their email hosting but I checked and they also have webhosting.
Anyway. :)

I have never met a person happy with godaddy hosting, and hostgator does not offer Windows hosting.

If you're going to continue to use SQL Express, then you should go with a dedicated hosting provider, as reputable shared hosters do not support SQL Express because Microsoft has recommend to not use SQL Express within a shared hosting environment. I have asked several ASP.NET/MS SQL focused web hosts and they have all told me the same thing - SQL Express is not to be used within a shared hosting environment.

That's plainly not true about MSSQL Express 2005 not being used in a shared environment. I think what you mean is not to use user instances.
MSSQL 2005 Express Advanced Services runs exactly the same way as its bigger brother.
Don't be fall for the FUD.
