View Full Version : sterlet.net IMHO
Montana 08-02-2002, 02:17 PM My reseller using sterlet.net resseling account. I see he is doing everything he can (v good help system, almost remarcable). But when my page (and the same - page of my reseller) is unavailable a few times during one month (and it is not minutes but hours) and it still occurs I am thinking about moving out (sorry Bill).
Would you please suggest me good resseler beetwen 3-7 $.
Montana
BTW: now I am suffering more than 11 hours interrupt. I can't reach my site. I can't reach my reseller site. I have email from him - he is almost dead - sterlet.net is silent and doesn't answer his asks.:bawling:
sitekeeper 08-02-2002, 04:26 PM If you are worried about quality I would expect to pay a little more. http://www.mchost.com is tops in reselling, http://www.hostingmatters.com also would be very good. If you are a serious about your reselling you need to be looking at the top providers.
Montana 08-03-2002, 01:22 AM Thanks for your reply.
I've checked mchost.com and hostmatters.com. MC looks good, the same Hostmasters. Unfortunatly MC hasn't have a simple hosting plan only reseller (for now I am not interesting in that). Hostsmasters with 6$ webhosting plan is OK but maybe the space (10MB) is too litlle for me 8$ plan is worth to think about it. MC is on Net Depot, Inc (and seems they migrated from NAC), Hostmasters is on NAC. (funny...)
Both of them have support forums - I like it.
During my search I have found rackshack.net. I was unable to find all things I want to know (they have other kind of web interface than CP - which I am familiar to, and the demo don't work... but the demo isn't on their pages). 10 bucks and 100 megs doesn't look bad (but what about the number of MySQL databases? etc - I can't find it).
anyway - thanks
PS - my site on sterlet.net is down. For now it will be soon a whole day. Crazy.

I am a co-Admin of a small hobby network (about 40 'puters). Thus our ISP don't allowed us to establish a www server I think I know enough about linux and that all technical stuff. We never let for downtime more then few hours... rather minutes (during more than one year). It is so simple - one 'puter works as a serwer. Another one is a spare and we have one more spare hdd ready to work. And on that way I don't understand why so many hosting companies let down their 'puters for so long???
Are there any really good I can trust not only their homepage looks good but service, uptime, technical support are good, too???
mk123 08-04-2002, 01:10 AM 1) sterlet.net don't even have any phone# or fax# !
2) They wipe out your old support tickets.
3) :uzi: sterlet.net
4) :bomb: sterlet.net :bomb:
5) goto step (3)

BAD BAD BAD hosting provider
Stay far away otherwise you will have many headaches.
I know these guys are cheap, but so are others and others have better support, better uptimes, and better speeds.
4 hours now, to maintain their the 99.9% uptime guarantee they have no more than 3 hours left this month and its only the first week :(
WOW, their back up
Montana 08-04-2002, 05:31 AM if somebody feel from my previous post I like MChost offer ... let me tell you I just have read
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46964&highlight=what+a+mcjoke
I recommended it for evryone who considered MCHost as a business partner. Expecially that sort of posts by Kiwi (CEO of MC, I think) where he explains that all bad things aren't his/his company foult.
BTW: Sterlet.net still down... (yeah - v. good hosting solutions for desperados :D )

We've certainly made mistakes in the past ...every company does. I've never said that all bad things are not our fault, but in that case it wasn't. The old data center (where we're moving all servers out of) has been unable to provide us with the service we expected, including hardware replacements taking longer than they should and network problems. All new clients are set-up in the new data center and we're moving all clients out of there, one-by-one.
When you have over 60 servers, (we've had 9 total in the old data center when we started moving) bad things can happen and when the data center is incapable of cooperating during that situation, in the end its us who are looking bad, as well as you in front of your clients.
If i can make you one recommendation, don't go with a company that is setting up new clients in that data center. Do a search at: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=506765&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

why don't you take care about your clients:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?postid=478881
my opinion about MCHost is now established 100% and I don't recommended it to anyone. (of course I am not client of MC, and maybe I have no rights to say that, but I am able to read and think... and I feel apologized when you (Kiwi) put your old way singing song in my topic - you've got what you want).
AceWeb
yes, definitly yes. But now during long hours/days surfing the web here and there I still don't have clear vision, I think u know what I mean.
===================================
Sterlet.net is up. (They was down more then 2 days and 12 hours - much better than MChost (5 or 7 days or more - I don't remember exactly ;) ))
MCHost-Marc 08-05-2002, 04:12 AM I don't think you can judge a whole company with dozens of servers with what happened to 1 server, but of course i respect your opinion. We have close to 3000 direct customers ...and while i understand downtime issues are frustrating and certainly nobody likes them, you would see 100's of threads complaining about MCHost if something was really wrong. I hope all goes well with whatever provider you choose :)
Montana 08-05-2002, 10:34 AM Kiwi if you are CEO of MCHost I am sure I can't trust that "whole company with dozens of servers".
Otherwords - CEO of such BIG companies hasn't enough time to spend 20/24 hours daily on 3rd party forum. You have. :D
poor poor poor your customers or.... high time of response here can suggest you are highly specialised bot.
(and not this 20/24 but here isn't a school of business - I'm never way going to list... everybody can read what you wrote in almost 2000 posts here, everybody can read what wrote your (often former) customers).
AceWeb
thank you for your help. As you can see on my post on the same top - I am looking and appreciate good advise. Then don't ask me PM you - I don't change my mind. You know that I want some help. And maybe a sugestion - if you have a really good sort of advice - make it official here not only PM to me or vice versa. I am nobody special to be PM-ed. Let others knows the bests solutions.

Usually such BIG companies have employees that are supposed to do the work. Not saying i have no work to do, because i do work 15+ hours every day ...but look at my WHT profile (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=3287), i have an average of 4 posts per day. That takes me a few minutes ...so i don't spend 24 hours on here ;)

The reason I would have rather done that in PM is because the price I might offer you, is not the same price I will offer to everyone (To get started, pretty much I am offering a “just to brake even” price, not looking toward profits now)...
Thank you. I appreciate your honesty expecially you know what I think about ... . I found more bad opinions (v. bad) about them. They positon for now is counted lower than for example that mentioned sterlet.net. I mean position based on opinion of their clients. Now I am targeted on other ones. After all, I think my final decision could be a litlle crazy couse I like to control my business ;)
all the best for your business
