I am a website developer who is starting up a business and I am in the process of choosing a host with a reseller package.

Are there any articles I can refer to that will guide me thru all the things I need to do such as but not limited to:

Terms of agreements for my clients.
Step by step process of setting up cPanel.
Other steps or items that need to be considered and thought out.

I am not looking for advice on which reseller or what size package...rather what I need to go thru to setup this business before I do website development.

Thank you all for your time and help! :agree:

Try to answer your questions here;

- terms of agreements for my clients; base them always on the Terms of Service of your host; that at least covers your back when your clients are not behaving as they should be.

- Step by step process of setting up cPanel; this should be done by your host; the only part you might need some help with is setting up packages under WHM (the reseller part of cPanel). i am sure most hosts will guide you in this, its really not so hard; but can be confusing the first time.

- Other steps or items that need to be considered and thought out.; make your choice well ; your are engaging a partnership with this host, if they make a mess of things, clients will knock on your door!.

also you need to figure out your requirements for the host; i.e. 24x7 support; what type of hosting linux or windows; diskspace; bandwidth and so on.

Hope this helps you on the way

Kindest regards,
Patrick

Thanks, Patrick. I appreciate your reply! How do you guys handle the accounting side and get the host billing program into Quicken?

Rick67,

You are welcome;

There are great programs on the market some for very reasonable prices; we love to use WHMCS which does it all for us. ( http://www.whmcs.com ) But there are others on the market as well.

some companies even offer a billing system with their reseller packages, but a monthly lease of the software is also possible.

Kindest regards,
patrick

Thanks! Was just looking into WHMCS. Found out HostGator offers it for free.

Terms of agreements for my clients. I think that hostlegal.com offers products that might be what you're after. As noted earlier, you need to make sure that your TOS as at least as restrictive as your provider's.

Many providers will allow you (if you ask for permission) to use their TOS as a basis for your own service agreement.

Step by step process of setting up cPanel.You might find some of the tutorials at http://onlinesupport.org/tutorials_whm_x.php handy.
