Hello,

I've just installed cpanel as as 14 days trial on our new dedicated server and it's the first time i am using it (i used alabanzas DSM before).

The first domain I am using is yakuzagames.com and I'd also have my server as a nameserver. Do I need to register ns.yakuzagames.com and ns2.yakuzagames (or anything else) with a registrar like Networksolutions or do I just need to add them to a 3rd party DNS ?

As I understand the two host names I am entering in cpanels WHM need to be fully working with IP addresses. Can this be any IP addresses of my server, or do I first need to tell bind to which two IP addresses it should "listen" ?

Sorry for those many questions, but I've never worked with bind directly.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Alex

If you want ns.yakuzagames.com and ns2.yakuzagames to be your primary and secondary DNS for the server then you will need to register them as name servers.

You should be able to do this with the registrar you initally regsitered the domain name at - it takes a few minutes and is free. But don't forget that it will take 24 hours or so for the new info to propagate (also don't forget to actually point yakuzagames.com at ns.yakuzagames.com and ns2.yakuzagames.com also).

Thank you Vilandra. I will do that. Any idea what I need to do with my bind running on the machien (installed by cpanel) in order to get it to work. How do I tell bind which two IP's are it's own ?

Hi :-)

I would like to help, but I am not sure. I did not install WHM myself, so I just had to edit the zone file for my domain and add A records for ns1 and ns2 and ran the 'Intial name server set-up'.

The tech at Noctser also said that he made an adjustment via telnet that had to be done that one time to make the name servers work.

I am sure there are people here who know the answer to your question though.
