I've been running my website (WVU Sports Dot Com) for over eight years and what was once a labor of love has now turned into a small :) money making monster. My traffic has grown to the point that virtual servers simply crash, due primarily to my message forum (WebBBS). I've been looking around at different servers but most servers seem a little extreme for what I need. I really like the look of the plans at Rackshack, BUT I have very little knowledge of RaQ's. So with that said I would like to give you the basics of what I need and I would really appreciate any thoughts you guys may have...specifically can a RaQ4 handle the following and what potential problems could there be...

1....I need a server that can handle at least 100,000 page views a day, with the vast majority being CGI calls from the WebBBS message forum.

2....At least 50GB/month of bandwidth.

3....An E-Commerce setup. Would love to have/keep my Miva Merchant store.

Well that's my situation, any thoughts? (sorry for the long post)

Thanks in advance,

Vernon

You could take a look at
1. wizardshosting.com
2. venturesonline.com
3. dtwebworks.com
4. tera-byte.com

All of them have great prices and excellent support.

Also, since you have so many cgi calls, I suggest you stuff the server with atleast 256mb RAM. The more the better.

Vernon, we come to the forums! I run a RaQ4, but I'm not sure what to tell you. The machine could handle what you are looking for I believe, no problem with 50GB/mo.

100,000 page views due to a cgi script- again, no problem but just realize that while any dedicated server would be able to handle your site better than a virtual account (almost any that is), due to limitations placed on virtual accounts (such as max percentages that the virtual account can use), the RaQ4's don't have the *fastest* processor you can get. Meaing that if you found a PIII650 for the same price, I'd probably go for the PIII personally.

Miva Merchant store- this is a licensing issue. Buy the license, and you can run the store. Your dedicated server (most likely) won't have any eCommerce carts installed by default, so you'd have to purchase this. Maybe there are places that bundle their servers with some type of discounted Miva products, but I couldn't help you much with that. Best to ask the provider.
