View Full Version : HostNine domain issue
merciarich 10-30-2007, 01:25 PM Hey
This has probably been said again and again, but I'm quite sure that HostNine suck (www.hostnine.com)
I bought a domain hosting4budgets.com (http://hosting4budgets.com) and they wont even let me transfer the thing over to my host Aviation Hosting (http://aviation-hosting.co.uk).
Spoke to "Blake" at H9 and they keep saying the same things over and over, they keep saying to submit a ticket. Which I do. Then they dont reply to it. And it goes round in circles again and again.
What can I do? Surely the domain is owned by me, if I wish to transfer it away I should be able to do so?
glueball 10-30-2007, 01:33 PM That's why people recommend not to purchase the domain together with the hosting, even if they offer you a free domain for life. Less than 10 bucks a year save a lot of problems ;)
iHubNet-Matt 10-30-2007, 01:35 PM A lot of threads open about the issues with Hostnine. Seems they are having some problem with their support.
Yet another post that gives all hosts who sell domains a bad name, you may own it, but the "administrative contract" controls it.
We repeat over & over on our site how we just do domains as a service and enter the customer's info as all 4 contacts, but many hosts don't. Especially if you took some type long-term deal with them (like a year offer)
I have had customers who had to threaten suits to get their names, or if it was a "free domain with a year hosting" offer or such you may have to pay for any unused time to get the name.
I hate posts like this, we make less than $1 a name, it's just a service to make it easy for our customers and many honest hosts are like us..., but a lot of hosts don't, they have clauses or use domain names to "hook" you into staying and they give the rest of us a "black eye" every time there is a post like this.
Do whatever they say like submit a ticket etc. If they don't respond in a reasonable time send them a message asking if (List the address as shown on their site) is the correct address for receiving legal documents. That will often get them moving if they think they are about to get "served".
ldcdc 10-30-2007, 01:50 PM if I wish to transfer it away I should be able to do so?There's a 60 days after the registration/prior transfer when that's not possible. Other than that, it's transferable and you should be allowed to do so by the registrar. Maybe Hostnine resells domains registering services, and you can get assistance from the upstream provider?
merciarich 10-30-2007, 02:20 PM If HostNine is a reseller, it obviously isnt advertised on their site.
Resellers tend to make it seem like they own their own servers and they are the registrar, even though its most likely coming from, like you said, another provider
I shall email them again today and if I receive nothing, maybe it would be time to look at taking it further
Techno 10-30-2007, 02:34 PM The domain name in your post is registered at www.register.com, you are the registered owner & it's your contact email. You should be able to login at register.com to manage your domain. No need to go through HostNine.

They are a register.com reseller.
BUT, it says aviation hosting as the registrant/admin/tech contact.
Edit:
Just initiate a transfer and an email with accept/deny request will be sent to your support email on your aviation domain. :)
merciarich 10-30-2007, 05:04 PM I have tried doing so, but my end I need an auth code
Techno 10-30-2007, 05:11 PM Can you login to your register.com account? My register.com account has an " Obtain Auth Info Code" link.
merciarich 10-30-2007, 06:03 PM Didnt even know I had access to register.com lol
Most resellers can lock the account of the end customers, (and do so), I had bad experiences with them. Always buy domains separately.
anon-e-mouse 10-30-2007, 08:23 PM When did you purchase it?
JohnJ 10-30-2007, 08:28 PM Richard,
I am working on resolving this issue. I had no idea that this was going to happen, as I canceled that account. But of course, leave it to HostNine to mess things up.
