I've been registered to brainbench since their beginnings, when all their tests were for free. I'm also paying annual subscriptions now.

I was thinking, does all that matter?
Is it really popular and worth the effort and money?
Are you a registered brainbench member?
Do you have any certificates from them?

I think it matters it a bit.

I had some certicates, but they expired.

What harm can it do?

If I apply for a job...and the client can not split me and another candidate...but he has a brainbench certificate in the choosen field...In my mind that puts him one step ahead.

Like most things in life though..these are just door openers...you still have to put yourself in front of the prospective employer. If the certification gets you through the door..well thats done it's job.

I have a couple of certifications..though you wouldn't have guessed...I am a master in English Language plus a Certified Project Manager.

There aren't many certification options in my country (Only the major expensive tests). So with all my knowledge, BrainBench was the only way for me to get certified in anything.

Anyway, I guess it is worth it then!

I heard it was very easy to cheat on typing test and get a perfect score. Do the test a few times and copy the text to a text editor. Then do a serious test but instead of typing, copy and paste from the text editor you prepared earlier. Voila! Perfect score :)

I had quite a lot of certifications from them, but I didn't renew when they stopped offering them for free. I got one hell a lot of job offers back then, but it was 2-3 years ago when they were hiring IT workers like hell :)

My certificates I proud of: RedHat Linux (was #1), Apache (was #1), Unix administrator (was #1 in my country), Linux Administrator (was #1 in my country), Data warehousing specialist (was #1), web programmer (was #1 in my country), perl programmer (was listed in top list), security specialist (was #2 in my country), networking (was listed in top list). :D

I've got several Brainbench certifications including:

- Master Typing Speed and Accuracy - Rated 97WPM accuracy adjusted - done about a year ago. The last non-Brainbench typing test I rated at 118WPM. Ranked 44th in the country (Australia) and 6th in my state (NSW) and I didn't cheat :).
- Master Computer Fundamentals Win95/98 (just off the top list in my Country at 4.71)
- Master Telecommunications Industry Knowledge (ranked 2nd in the country at 4.46)
- Master Maths Fundamentals (ranked 2nd in the country at 4.91)
- HTML 3.2
- Written English (I use Australian spelling, tests use American spelling hence only a standard pass).
- Linux Administration (General)
- MS Word 97

I've got quite a few more certifications as well as a few more masters but I think I've listed enough.

I mainly use Brainbench tests to see how I stand up to others - and to see how I can improve. I think I've done fairly well considering I'm 18 years old and normally do the tests in the early hours of the morning :)
