Hi,

This post is especially to indian hosting company owners but anyone can give me advices from my country , caste or religion. I will appreciate!

I have started my hosting business as a reseller. Now I want to promote it and get many leads in my area.

What I have thought is that I order 5000 flyers or brouchers... and hire guys who will put those in newsspapers.

What do you think? What elese method are good and effective?
I have a budget of Rs.5000 ~ 125 USD ...

Thanks in advance.

Do you offer web design aswell?

If you do maybe just dropping a business card into some selected businesses will promote your business, offer your hosting as a side line.

Think of the purchase process when you consider the value of doing flyers. How do local business normally buy web hosting? Do they think "I really would like web hosting, but I don't know where to look... luckily this flyer just landed on my desk!" or do they ask around among their friends and business associates? I would get most of business would come from word of mouth/referrals, so that may be the best approach.

1. Advertise in the Times of India (or any other Indian Newspaper). Charges are extremely low for newspaper ads. Look for classified section.

2. Word of mouth with friends and family.

3. Your FRIEND's dad or mom is the key :) Explain why they need to get up with the time and get their presence felt online.

ameeriklane: 90% of people in my city (Agra) dont know the term hosting, but they do know what is a website.

vpslink-guy: Thanks for your idea! But do you really think that the people do read in the Times of Classifieds section ? It is tooo bulky. Even I dont read. I usually skip that page.

Yeah, Word of Mouth is good but at least someone should know abt your services. I think in my family no one is interested in computers. How can they spread abt hosting services.

Thanks.

I think people do read Times Classified actually. Dont forget India's population and readerbase. If you take a select 0.50% of the entire readerbase you still have a lot there. If you look there are lots of people posting ads - they probably aren't wasting money either. I tend to agree with VPS link though I also feel that they should spend money with Graphical Ads (larger size ads)

Putting ads on newspaper is good idea.

Having a good website and good back links to your site will surly boost traffic on your website. Then your your own skill to convert that hits to clients.

Having ads on google adwords is also good just be sure you know how to do that as many have wasted tons of $$ by bidding on wrong keywords.

their are many ways and your budget is also fine.

Most of our local clients came from word of mouth.

But, I was thinking of something like a newspaper ads in a comics section. Create a comics strip (maybe a series?) that educates people what web hosting is all about and have your company's brand included in the storyline seamlessly. This is called "brand placement."

Try to think of something unique.

First of all make sure that people in your area are interested in getting/changing web hosting and your profit will be.
As someone said newspapers (coupon codes must work) works and also radio (local radio).
In any case that advertising on local media will be more expencive.

I would not really reccomend to get into web hosting with 125 bucks. It's not even 50/50 to get them back. It's about 100% that you will loose.

Approximately client goes for 50 USD now if your branding is done well. Within a time a customer will reffer you more customers if you've done good.

I think $125 is good to get started. You cant expect tons of clients coming in but if used in good way surly $125 a month can do good to your business.

Now coming to your point, what i really thing is newspaper is good idea but remember even if 10 peoples are interested not even 1% of them will carry your ad to computer, type in your web address and check our your plan details.

So i think if you need to get started

1) You should have a very good and informative website
2) Get your SEO done over your website.
3) Submit to various forums and directories and other sites
4) Write or get few articles and submit them over other sites.

All these can be done at very low cost.

Once you have done all these you can really start your marketing
over newspaper so that 1% that comes to your site surly goes for order.

You can have few templates print outs and ask any local news paper to pout in all newspapers they will hardly charge you anything and your circular will go to almost every home in your local area. Dont forget to mention your tel or mobile # in your ad.

My $0.02 for you ;)

In India blogging is still catching up. I recommend that you write good articles on blogging and highlight how to make money from blogging and get it printed in newspapers and your flyers. Include pricing information and show them potential revenue they could make by taking examples of good bloggers in India.

Include your contact information and website name. Show people how beneficial it is to have a website and how easy it is to make money from it, this way people will start coming to your website. You can't expect a dramatic increase in your customer base overnight but gradually it will happen depending on how good your customer support is and what you do to retain your customers.

Goodluck! :)

Also if you want really good and quality businr=ess you have to understand that people expaect for profit from your blogging service and they must receive it. In other case they will become disillusioned with your services.
So if you promice profit your customers must get it - and you will be sucessful.

If you want to go advertising locally, Then try to knock every door of a company or a professional individual explaining to them the benefit of having a website for their business and what you can offer to them like personal emails......

I am sure if you try this way first, you can get a lot of people to sign up.

local paper ads or classifieds work on the long run .
u need to advertise regularly for months to-gether ...
