I want to register a bunch of domains. Currently I'm volunteering overseas, so not a lot of money. That's why I'm looking at a cheap way to do this.

Granted, I also have domains registered with GoDaddy and NameCheap. I'm not a big fan of GoDaddy, but I like NameCheap a lot.

I found a promo link for Yahoo! domains for $1.99 for new customers. I am a new customer. I remember hearing about this deal back in 2005. I thought the promo had stopped, but I guess I was wrong. Back in 2005 - 2006 there were people having bad experiences with Yahoo! domains with transferring them out to another registrar after the 60 days "no transferring period".

What's everyone's recent experiences with transferring a .com or .net out of Yahoo! domains to GoDaddy or NameCheap?

I'm only planning to register .com and .net.

I think only 1 new domain is allowed for $1.99 .

It is best to politely ask Yahoo.

I believe you are limited to 1 domain at $1.99.
Remember that when you transfer out after 60 days you will pay an additional year's registration to the receiving registrar at their regular price.

Sure. But you know how transfers were before. They're the same now, since nothing has changed between Yahoo and MelbourneIT. Still a nightmare to transfer away. Not to be tackled by the faint-hearted. (This is only hearsay, since I haven't attempted a transfer recently myself, but apparently, it's still the same nightmare).
