Just a couple of quick PearlDesk questions...

Is PearlDesk fairly easy to install?

Have you had good experiences with it?

Would you recomend it?

Thanks all.:D

If you leave a link to them at the bottom of the page and their image on the page somewhere...

Without a doubt, PerlDesk is awesome!

If you are installing on a RAQ, it can be a pain, but other than that, yes, great program!

Good program. Easy to install, easy to customize, anyway it is the best free helpdesk you can find. If you want to remove the link it will cost you 70$ which is a fair price.

Perldesk Great !! yes :D

I am going to ask: How does a admin or staff close tickets without deleting them? :uhh:

Reply to the ticket and where it says status: [Open/Hold/Closed] Click "Closed" :)

Delete of tickets is bad....

One, you have no recourse to see if you have common issues, and 2, it screws with your true response times....

Just my two cents....

Okay if you're a reseller. Hardly professional for a bigger host. ;)

I just know I'm setting myself up to get burned. :D

Perldesk is great, only complaint is it calculates response time based on ticket filing to ticket resolution, not the time between the user response/ticket opens, and staff response, i've got something against the average response time of 6-18 hours (99% of it is waiting for the user to respond with more information, or confirm the issue is resolved, we dont just slap closed tickets).

But other then that, and a few glitches here and there, great software, why pay hundreds of $$$ when you can use perldesk free? :D

yep, you can do that. I can't remember the exact page, and actually, i'm running an older version than the current one cause i like it better so i'd probably mess you up. But yes, you can assign the ticket to a person.

Once again, great program.

Hi

I have just downloaded PerlDesk and will have a look at this.

But can anyone tell me which is better - PerlDesk or phpManager?

I know phpManager has additional functionality like allowing the set up of new accounts.

I am in the process of starting a hosting business (initially reselling) - so I guess I only need the support element of phpManager - doubt I could use the additional functionality.

After playing with phpManager 7 day trial version it looks good and everyone seems to say it is easy to amend the scripts for your own needs. BUT you actually have to buy it to get an unencrypted version or to access anything other than pre-sales queries on their forum. So you cannot try amending the scripts or read about actual users comments until you actually pay out. And yes I would need to amend the scripts.

One great plus is that phpManager does have a link into Revecom.

I don't mind paying if its good, hate shelling out money for things that are bug ridden, in constant state of being updated or there is no or little documentation.

I also find phpManager impossible to install on a local PC (win2k, Apache, etc) because it needs mcrypt(). I found mcrypt() impossible to install on win2k - no help from pre-sales support either. I did however install ok on the server. Without a local installation though, amending scripts and testing them is going to be a nightmare.

All this makes me feel something like PerlDesk may be a better option.

So please give me your opinions of which product is best for me - buying phpManager or free Perl Desk?

All comments and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Kevin

well, you downloaded a new version, so i can't direct you exactly where to go. My advice, go to the perldesk forums. John is usually very helpful. Sorry i can't be more help.

Am I the only one that gets an internal server error when going to the perldesk forums?

It was located at http://www.perldesk.com/board but it doesn't seem to be functioning at the moment...

There's a post elsewhere on the board from John, explaining that the forums will be put back up when the new release of Perl Desk comes out. I'm not sure when that will be, but as I understand it, they've been removed for the time being.
