View Full Version : Use of 2nd Colo Space (Lots of Free IPs)

I have a rack hosted somewhere and got only 2 IPs. I am now working for a company that's been around for a very long time and awhile back they got lots of IP blocks that are not even using. They only use 2 out of "many!".

I don't want to colo a server there because they only have a T1 and very low traffic. Is there a way I can borrow or use their IPs.. I can always dump a Pentium I or II there and use it for services but still use my other Colo Server as primary.

I am running Linux as O/S... I would like to have e-commerce sites with their dedicated IP that way I can use SSL, SSI and such; but that would mean I still need to colo @ work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Lots of IPs available but don't want to use it as primary server but rather use the IPs and keep my other server (from colo) as my standard.

Sorry Not possible...

The only way is for some crafty firewall rules to encapsulate packets and re-route them, which would take forever, so its not worth it at all.

Just curious... What kind of company would sell you an entire rack with only two IPs?

There are lots out there, I had ServerRack (http://www.serverrack.net) in the past; and they only gave me 2 IPs. Right now I am paying 1/3 of the cost on a T3 line that is colo at a facility I know someone and they gave me a very good deal but I couldn't ask for too much.

dialtone gives you unlimited ips, the only limitation is how many you can bind to one nic :D

Sorry to say that but it is a stupid policy.

I think I can start using others, he might have a block... he just told me one day that I can use the following as well. I will try to add the next IP or the prev. IP on my nic and see if it works... if he finds out I'll play stupid... Heeheh

I will have no problems getting more, if needed right now I have to figure out what to do with extra IPs, if I get any.

First I have to go buy a SSL Certificate...
