Last week I came across Domain Directions (the board is blocking the URL) which seems like a great deal. I couldn't find any references to them in a forum search so thought I'd post here.

For $15 you get a domain name with 2mb webspace, 100 email forwarding addresses, URL forwarding, DNS management etc. They also offer hosting which looks very cheap.

I have a feeling that they may be an eNom (http://www.enom.com/) reseller as they offer very similar (but slightly better) services as eNom and I saw eNom referred to in some of their terms and conditions. One problem I see already is the lack of a secure server for taking credit card details. And from the news page (http://www.****************.com/cgi-bin/Domaingate.cgi?page=st_disclaimer&htmlpage=press.htm) it seems they only began business on July 11.

Any initial impressions from people? Anyone bought any of their services? Are there better deals out there?

Haven't dealt with them persay, but I'll give some opinions.

Site looks pretty professional, so it seems legit, BUT...
1) I have clients that have dealt with some of these lesser known places that offer piddly hosting as a side, and it has been nothing but bad experiences (ie: domainmart)
2) It really isnt that great of a deal. Why not goto godaddy, get an 8.95 domain, and pay for a decent host ;)

I was just impressed with their extra features - hosting, DNS management, email forwarding etc. I was going to use GoDaddy until I saw these guys. Just interested in other opinions....

I think you're right about the "hosting-on-the-side" thing though. Doesn't sound overly reliable.

Simon give it a try mate!

Don't concern yourself with how long a business has been in operation - We've all got to start somewhere and it's normaly at the start = NEW

Go with your gut - If you were wrong you've lost more than $15 doing stupid stuff before ;)

Well I've bought a domain with them and will post back here in a couple of weeks when I know how good their service is. Looks good so far...

Domain Directions.com (http://dd.simoneast.net)

So far it's been pretty good. No real problems with the domain name, BUT...

* The "Name my Computer" feature doesn't seem to work

* The credit card processing is done unsecurely and when you open the page to change your details, your card number is shown in full - in plain unsecured HTML. I also think there is a problem with the login because I could jump to another domain's control panel just by changing the querystring (not tested extensively). I've also had some unauthorized charges to my VISA over the last few weeks which I'm pretty sure have stemmed from the lack of security from Domain Directions.

Until, the security is upgraded, I'd suggest staying away from this registrar. When it happens, it should be a good service though. :o

Hey guys, give a chance to smaller registrars, but don't do this on a stupid way! I mean, don't post your credit card info over insecured http pages....
Just my 2 cents. :D
