Hello!

I am wondering what multi player games are available on Linux? I know CSS 1.6 is officially supports Linux while MOHAA has an unofficial port out there. I am more interested in knowing about official releases that supports Linux. I am asking this question from the perspective of a prospective GSP business model.

Are you looking to host the game on a Linux server? Or are you looking to actually play the game in a Linux environment?

Well he wants to be a GSP (Gaming Service Provider), so he is hosting the game

On a similar note, what would be better option for hard disk. My base server is as follows:

Single Proc Xeon 5310 (Quad Core 1.6GHz 1x8MB Cache)
4 GB RAM
10mbps NIC (with options for 100 mbps, plenty of bandwidth)
RHEL 4
CStrike Source 1.6

I have 3 options wrt hard disk:
- 2 x SATA II, 16MB Cache, RAID 0 ($0)
- 2 x SATA Raptor 10K, RAID 0 (+$40)
- 1 x SATA Raptor 10K, no RAID (-$30)
- 1 x SCSI 15K, no RAID ($0)

I am giving the cost difference just in case that makes a difference to anyone. Of course this is per month basis.

Please keep in mind I am not inclined to change the base system specs at the moment and so the hardware will ofcourse have a certain upper limit to performance. So going for 2 x SCSI 15K with RAID 0 does not make sense to me at the moment unless someone can correct me on the matter by virtue of experience.

The server will not host anything else, including maps; which will be delivered directly from another web server.

In this case, what is my best option wrt hard disk configuration.

Thank you Benji.

EA site is very difficult to use specially for old game. I could not find MOHAA available at all there let alone a release for Linux for any new or old game. Perhaps I should look over in more details.

I am going to try Google again for the newer titles.

MOH games don't have a dedicated server component so you would have to upload your game cd contents.

Your best bet for HDs is the raptors in RAID.
You'll want that backup, but the extra speed may just help a bit more than extra storage would in another situation

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, I love that game and I love good GSP deals. gameservers.com is becoming expensive for european servers!

If you're going to be running multiple games on the same server, I advise using the fastest drives available for best performance. The 10k Raptors are a good inbetween.
