View Full Version : Earthlink as Web Host?

I had Earthlink as a host on one site as successor to Mindspring. I never had any technical problems and they seemed pretty dependable.

I dumped them a coupla months ago because only inertia kept me paying $30/month for 30MB. When I called to cancel I expected them to offer me something nicer but instead they just cancelled without another word.

I already had the site set up on another provider and ALMOST ready to go. Lucky thing, because my site disappeared with 10 minutes after I hung up the phone--even though I was paid through for another week. Luckier, I control my own zone files, so I was back up in about 4 hours.

So why am I asking about Earthlink now? Fellow I know with a nice site has been getting beaten up with bandwidth charges for his site, which runs about 12-14GB/month. Earthlink now has a plan called "Developer Package" at $34.95 month, 300 MB, 20GB bandwidth, which seems right up his alley.

Anyone have any recent experience with Earthlink, good/bad? Those numbers are really good.

Communitech.net (http://www.communitech.net) has a similar offer, with a little more bandwidth and storage space for (if I remember correctly) $5 cheaper/month. You might want to take a look at them.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.

Have you looked at their cheaper packages and see how much it would cost to purchase more bandwidth? Many times that is the better route to go, if you don't need that much space.
