The topic says it.

My company is considering to move to 100% colocation, instead of colocation and leasing (dedicated servers). But is it worth it with the current market?

I mean colocation has advantages:
You own the hardware
You have control
etc etc

But so does "leasing" a dedicated server:
You don't have to pay for replacement hardware
Not much upkeep besides the server

The price is about the same when considering high quality bandwidth (Internap). The only thing that raises the cost is buying the servers.

So my question is.. is it worth it for a small company to be 100% colocated?

Any thought is apperciated.

I think it's best to do it while your small, that is if you intend to get big. Think about this, the bigger you get, the harder it will be to switch facilities.

Indeed, as we're in 5 different places right now.

My idea is to house our server somewhere different than the rest of the servers. This way our server is up if the others are down for some reason.

That sounds like a very good idea.

Find a local DC, and get some good bandwidth.

Internap tends to be in carrier neutral facilities, and you can probably get a better rate by leasing a rack/cabinet through them. Then, you wont need a router. Atleast, that's how I got quoted by their sales rep, for in Seattle.
