I'm looking to setup an Intranet site, and need something easy to implement and manage. I was thinking of using a message board such as ultimatebb.com and installing it on my server. Basically I need a calendar, place for users to download files, and post questions and announcements. Will this work? Any other suggestions? Thank you.

check out freshmeat.net - there are a number of open source php/mysql inranet implemtations. One that i've used is phpIntranet - also intranets.com is pretty good. I used them back when a personal account was free.

1) A groupware like phpgroupware
2) An internal newgroup with NNTP
3) An internal mail system with sendmail
4) A webserver with apache.
5) A forum with phpbb
6) A fileserver with nfs
7) Timesheet (phptimesheet).
8) An internal icq server
9) A ticketing/bug system with bugzilla.
10) An online cal system..

You may use only parts of it which you feel is useful for you.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am also looking for a donation tracking program either online or as a software package. I need this to track donations to my company and send out mass mailings. Any ideas? Thank you.

Mass mailing is not advised by me... It is not good.
The best solution is either install a mailing list like majordomo for a complete solution. Or use nomodomo which is very easy to setup...
