In the web hosting industry, some hosts will offer dedicated server and colocation service. The difference in the two is only where the server comes from. If a host offers dedicated server service, then the server is provided by the host, it can be maintained by the host (managed dedicated server) or maintained primarily by the client (un-managed dedicated server). The host will usually offer colocation where you send your server to be co-located to the host NOC which is a better envireoenment since it usually provides dedicated lines, UPS backup, etc where your server will be up to its task.

Now, in colocation industry... of course renting the space in the NOC for your server can be quite expensive. There is a rackmount standard where a server is build into a rackmount chasis for space efficiency. Rackmount chasis is measured usually by it's height (also it's width, either 19" or 23" chasis). A height of 1U means the rackmount is about 1x1.75"; 2U is a about 2x1.75"=3.5". Basically, each U is 1.75". So 1U, 2U, etc is the measure of the height of the rackmount chasis. Now... the height of a full rack (rack->the place to put your server in a NOC) is about 42U meaning it can contain 42 servers each of 1U space or it cans also contain about 10-12 mid-tower size servers. See... Rackmount chasis is beneficial for the NOC since it is more space-efficient. Therefore, most of the host offer cheaper colocation price for 1U/2U rackmount chasis than for midzise/full tower server.

Raq3 (and Raq4) is just a server made by http://www.cobalt.com. It is a server that comes in standar 1U rackmount chasis. The intention is to make it more cost efficient (for the end user or for the NOC) since it is space efficient. Dell, Compaq, Intel also have their own lines of 1U servers.

If you have further question, just ask. There are a lot of nice people in this forum that will help you out... Everybody goes to the same process, not sure about something yet somebody else comes to help... :D

cheers,

RAID is something all bugs fear. ;D

It's also a computer term. Here's link to Adaptec's site that gives a simple explanation of RAID and the different levels.
