View Full Version : Domain Name Expiry / Renewal Issue
otisdog 10-15-2007, 04:01 PM I am currently having a big problem with my local Domain Name Registrar.
Here's how the story goes :-
I wanted to register a domain however when I did a whois on the 18th of September 2007, the record shows the following :-
[ Record Created ] 11-FEB-2004
[ Record Expired ] 11-FEB-2005
I got curious so I decided to call the Registrar. To my horror, I was told the Registrar actually forgotten to remind the owner that the domain had expired for over 2 years. This person whom I spoke to subsequently called up the domain owner and she agreed to renew the domain on the spot.
Has anyone of you come across such a problem? I thought renewal reminders are normally sent automatically and not manually?By right, this person should not be allowed to renew the domain and it should be released to the public for new registration because it has expired for more than 2 years!
What can I do about this situation?
Thanks!
otisdog 10-15-2007, 04:04 PM Guess what, here's the last WHOIS results :-
[ Record Created ] 11-FEB-2004
[ Record Expired ] 11-FEB-2007
[ Record Last Modified ] 18-SEP-2007
Based on the information given above, the domain still has not been renewed since it has expired for more than 6 months already :(
nameslave 10-15-2007, 06:15 PM Interesting story. Could you please run the whois again at:
http://www.internic.net/whois.html
and post the result (minus the actual domain if you so choose). Thanks.
otisdog 10-15-2007, 06:45 PM Its not a .COM, its a local domain.
By the way, any idea how I can edit my initial post? I have accidentally created a double post with my 3rd reply.

What exactly do you wanna see from the WHOIS results? :)
I can post it here if you want =)
SoftWareRevue 10-15-2007, 06:59 PM ... I have accidentally created a double post with my 3rd reply.And removed. :)
otisdog 10-15-2007, 07:03 PM Basically the original poster can't remove his/her own post if there's any duplication? :)
otisdog 10-15-2007, 07:09 PM To whom can I bring up this matter to?
Is there a body governing all the local Domain Registrars?
SoftWareRevue 10-15-2007, 07:13 PM Basically the original poster can't remove his/her own post if there's any duplication? :)You have 15 minutes to make any edits.
otisdog 10-15-2007, 07:19 PM You have 15 minutes to make any edits.
Only 15 minutes to make amendments/edits?
There's no way I can delete my posts?
SoftWareRevue 10-15-2007, 08:29 PM Correct.
If you have an issue and need something edited after the time frame, simply use the Report Post button and someone will do it for you. :wht:
Dave Zan 10-15-2007, 09:25 PM Its not a .COM, its a local domain.
Extensions outside CNOBI (com/net/org/info/biz) domain names, especially country codes, have their own "rules". Why the things that happened from your post is something only the registrar probably knows.

what i meant to say was: is this a .my domian? i have same experience in that they do not seem to automatically follow deletion date on whois, i seem to see they manually do it.
