I know most resellers use unix, but from experience what kind of demand is there in the market right now for windows webservers? Would it be worth it to offer that as well even if at no extra cost to you as the reseller?

I've actually been thinking of getting a windose server. They cost more $$$ and would be more prone to attacks etc. But there is a demand out there, albeit not huge. Every now and then someone posts into the request forum looking for windose hosting and hardly anyone replies. This should give you an indication of supply and demand from around these parts. That could paint a true picture of the market as a whole too.

I'd say get a windose box and see how you go about populating it. One of my techs is constantly nagging me for ASP. He came from the windose environment but now loves PHP/MySQL.

I have a couple Windows servers. If you currently host 25 verifiable sites and promise to put the Windows 2000 logo on your site, Microsoft will send you a free copy of 2000 Advanced server and regular updates. (At least I think they still do that) You might want to check into it. It'll save you a couple hundred bucks.

Why go Windows over Linux? Linux = basically free, Windows = rather buy a car with that money. Linux will offer you everything that Windows has (really, I should switch those two around). I don't see what are the advantages for a Windows server unless you need to use special Windows applications like MS Access. Even then, MySQL seems to do the job quite fine. :rolleyes: :confused: :eek:

Well I don't understand people much either, I myself have always used and probably always will use a unix based server, but some people insist on windows :confused: That's why it may be an option, if clients see you are offering more of a selection to suit their needs it may help.

I do windows hosting mainly because I have a demand for it. That, and it can take as many as 20 unix accounts to equal what I make off one Windows account.

If I have a customer say to me, "I want ASP and MSSQL." I can charge as much as $100 a month for that.

Good point, there is quite a price difference in each OS packages. So you are right, if you even have a few clients who need these windows features they will obviously be willing to pay for it, which can help make up for costs elsewhere.

though some ppl ask wats the difference between NT/W2K

major query is Linux/ Win2K which one should go for... and which one better :)

I would recommend offering Windows hosting, as that is where the real money is at. Unix is good, but a lot of business out there focus around the "Microsoft Office" family and they prefer to keep it in the family.
