View Full Version : Looking for Quality Web Host
Benjamin 10-12-2007, 05:18 PM I'm looking for a quality web host that has good guaranteed uptime, fast responsive tech support, and has been in business for 8+ years. Needs to also be a relatively good price. Which web hosts would you guys recommend?
Needing at least:
12 GB Disk Space
180 GB Bandwidth
WHM with Unlimited cPanel accounts
Overselling allowed (hosting my own sites, so it is just there to make sure to never go over the limit on each site without knowing)

I think you'll be able to find all of these except for the length of time that they have been established. The only one I can think of at this point is AxisHost.com. They've been here for 10 years, but I don't know of any other hosts. I wouldn't put age in your requirement because there are a lot of good hosts around that are really good but haven't been in business long. What would you budget be? These requirements are reasonable.
Nnyan 10-12-2007, 05:51 PM There are plenty of quality hosts out there that can meet your needs. I'm not sure how many of them have been around for 8+ years. I normally look for hosts that have been around for at least 3 years but that's just one metric.
I think you'll overlook some of the best hosting available right now if you only look at 8+ years. Additionally some of the best hosts do put some limits on the number of cpanel accounts on at least some of their offerings.

What makes you say AxisHost have been in business 10 years? I know for sure they haven't been offering reseller hosting for that time, not under the AxisHost banner, anyway, and not in reseller hosting.

BrettB 10-12-2007, 07:18 PM What makes you say AxisHost have been in business 10 years?
According to their about page, they started (although under a different name) in 1997, which would make it about 10 years now. While AxisHost may not have been providing reseller hosting for that amount of time, it's fair to say they have a lot of experience and many happy customers :)
Nnyan 10-12-2007, 07:22 PM Splitting hairs I know but there are plenty of hosts that claim (or could claim) "X years of experience". That experience may very well be very valid to the current industry but its very different then "X years as a reseller".
AH-Tina 10-12-2007, 09:12 PM We started out in 1997 as a local web design firm and sold hosting to people who participated in various webmaster newsgroups. Within a few years we ditched web design and have been providing hosting (and reseller accounts) exclusively ever since. Our name has changed over the years, as our market focus changed, but its been the same people in charge since 1997.
If you want to split hairs and just talk about "experience" - its been far longer than 10 years. ;)

ByteMaster 10-12-2007, 09:19 PM Hi Benjamin,
Since we have not been in business as long as you require, I do not feel too bad about recommending Axishost. They have been around for about 8 -9 years I think, and have a very good rep. DreamHost hqas been around at least that long too, but I cannot speak for thier reputation.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
Benjamin 10-12-2007, 09:35 PM Now that I see there really aren't that many web hosts that old, I would also be quite happy with 5+. I think the main reason for this is the fact that all the guys that frequently talked on webhostingtalk in those old days, are in-fact no longer talking regularly on the forums (kinda like me... I used to be on the forums daily, but then after a few years past, I lost interest).
AH-Tina 10-12-2007, 10:27 PM In that case, I would recommend dotable.com - good bunch of guys over there.

ldcdc 10-12-2007, 10:45 PM In that case, I would recommend dotable.com - good bunch of guys over there. The owner does have the (new) experience requirement, but the brand itself doesn't.
DreamHost hqas been around at least that long too, but I cannot speak for thier reputation.Nor do they provide reseller hosting per se.

UH-Bobby 10-12-2007, 11:40 PM Maybe Total Choice Hosting would fit you, but they just under the limit. I think they were established in 2003, or at least the domain was. I enjoyed their service, and I never had a problem with them.
viratshah 10-17-2007, 10:12 AM A host that old wouldn't be overselling...
so be ready to shell out atleast $4/GB of diskspace...which = $48/mo
you rather go for a low end dedicated machine costing ~$75
AH-Tina 10-17-2007, 10:16 AM A host that old wouldn't be overselling...
Nonsense. We're 10 yrs old and we oversell (to a reasonable degree, of course).
