No, I know all about name servers.
I just have a question from other host out there. How do you deal with a customer that has an exsisting domain name that needs their name servers changed. Esp. if you have not registered their domain name.
Senerio:
I get a new customer that has an exsisting domain name. They got domain name from old host that has listed the admin and tech contact to themselves. Don't give login into to customer.
Do you tell the customer that they are responsible for getting the name servers changed?
I help the customer as much as I can, but in the end it is really their responsibilty.
I have been going to post about this for awhile now until I seen this post this morning, I knew I had to post this.

Also, if you register for customers, do you list your customer as the admin contact as you rightfully should?
Any other comments on this?

I had a customer a long time ago that switched to me and had the problem where the admin and tech contact was listed to the old host. He tried and tried and tried to get the old host to switch the info and they would not.
I also tried, they would not. I finally ripped them big time and through my sources got them on the phone and asked, why do you guys do this?
Their response was "In case the customer owes us money they can't exit stage left" which in a way I could see the point, a little, but if I was unhappy with a service I would not pay either.
I asked, so does my customer owe you money, they said no, then I asked why they would approve the changes to the domain name and they hung up on me.
This was back when we only had Network Solutions to deal with, luckly the host did list the customer as the "Registrant" they faxed in docs to show their ID and had to have the admin and tech info changed manually.
But that is not the case all the time, some host even list themselves as the registrant.

I help them as much as I can but in the end they have to be the ones to do the change. I have emailed and called other host, gone around other host direct to whomever they are reselling for to get name servers setup for customers and the only ones I have found so far impossible to deal with has been NetSol. But what is new.
I have a separate site for name registration so when they register with me they are taken to another site that is nothing but name registration and they are able to create their own contact info. If they ask that I do it I put everything but technical contact in their name and give them the user and pasword to manage their name. After all it is their name their money.

Same here.
I have had customers get p'ed at me for not being able to change their name servers. Go fig.
Sometimes it can be so hard getting through to a customer that.
1. Domain Names Registration
and
2. Web Hosting
are two different things.
Just a matter of customer education.

Just have detailed articles, pictured walk-throughs or FAQs that cover such subjects. I get a lot of clients who want personalised nameservers but didn't know that they needed to actually register them with the IPs first before they can start using them.
