Im going to start writing a web app that's main job is going to be searching and editing an LDAP directory. Im pretty proffecient in both Java and Vb.net, but im going to have to brush up my LDAP skills which ever language I use, so does anybody have any reasons to use one language over another for this task?

Platform and hardware requirements are not an issue here, so its just whether one language would be easier to code this in than the other?

A lot of examples you will find if you go with PHP.
We have a few applications doing the same as you want to achieve and have no problems at all with it.

If you have in a place an application server for JAVA then go with it otherwise my suggestion is to with PHP.

Hope that helps

Use Java(Icefaces). It will take you 10 minutes to get a working prototype.
