I am about to launch / build a hosting business and would like to offer domain registration.
Do you have some good suggestions for a domain API / reseller solution?
I have not made my mind up for the invoice/billing software yet so if you have something to suggest I would appreciate it.
I will be using the DirectAdmin control panel.

Well, there are a number of domain reseller API's in the market I guess it just depends on what your budget is and what your markup is going to be.
From personal experience, I believe Enom and OpenSRS are primarily the "big" providers - however, from some research I conducted sometime ago when I was setting up a domain sales site, I found their prices for a "startup" to be slightly more as you would really have to be selling "hard" in order to make a turnover from domain sales competing with the likes of GoDaddy ... etc.
I got myself an account through ResellerClub (although their service was intermittent) my provider was excellent and always managed to get domains registered ASAP. The also offered a "white-label" site - so you really don't have to do much when it comes to integration.
I can provide you with a sample of what the site looks like if you are interested to compare it to other solution providers - just drop me a PM as I wouldn't want to be self-promoting.
Good luck ... :)

Enom, SRSplus, OpenSRS - 3 popular places for reselling domains. Give them a call and talk to someone so you can figure out which one meets your needs the best.

Enom has a pretty good API, with decent documentation. I would recommend them.

ResellerClub all the way up as per my experience, you get ready made whitelabel brand able storefront, supersite, partnersite and API for free. most of the hosting billing software are compatible with ResellerClub API integration.

Our registrar is Directi and they provide API to resellers. Most hosting billing softwares support it.

We started out using OnlineNIC and Enom. Because of lacks in OnlineNICs API at the time we transferred all domains to Directi. Enom has a poorly implemented API compared to Directi which I must say is the best we have seen on the market. We do however use Enom for the TLDs that Directi doesn't provide.

Don't go with iyd.com (it's your domain) ... it was always a nightmare but it's pretty easy to set up if and you don't have to buy in bulk like with some of the other companies.
