I'm looking for a UK merchant account to process credit and debit card transactions.

I've used Worldpay in the past, which is ideal, but their support is absolutely awful.

One option is a merchant account from barclays, and use protx for the frontend, anyone do that?

Any tips? what do you use?

Well, our company is located in NL (Europe) and we use 2checkout at the moment for processing credit card payments. I think they also support UK, and I like their support.

Great thanks for the info, last time I checked (year or so ago) they didnt support GBP or euros but they do now.

Do you receive your remittance in Euros?

Any other options?

EDIT: 2co charges are steep "2CO applies a 5.5% commission on each transaction, plus a $0.45 charge per transaction.". IIRC worldpay is about 4%.

Hi,

All our "payments" are received in EUROS, so for you in GBP's it shouldn't be any problem also. I know their transaction fees are quite "high", but we have chosen them because we can easily integrate it in our current billing system (Modernbill).

If your're selling domain names barclays will probable be a no no,

We tried with barclays and they asked for an astonishing £25,000 deposit as domain names are classed as a subscription and because .uk domains have to be registered for 2 years that provokes an insane deposit request,

We use paypal, it supports every card and we arent personally handling card data, which makes it one less thing for us to worry about,

Customers always seem to blame the page that asks for the card details regardless of who is to blame, so just be weary

paypal is an option, maybe its better than it used to be? but it used to really prompt users into signing up for a paypal account even though they "didnt have to". How do you find it now?

Do you recall what barclays rates were?

p.s. couldn't figure out how to order a package on your site: http://www.forwardviewhosting.com/

Try Bank of Scotland Merchant Services (and ProtX for the frontend) - ask for Jaime there, he's the guy I've dealt with and he's great at getting you that little bit 'extra'.

Rates were the best I'd found, they will normally lop something off the setup fee depending on what it is you're doing as well. A couple of other people I've suggested look at them had a similar experience - lowest rates and that they were willing to haggle :)

Paypal seem ok now, theyre a bit more relaxed and seem to bend over backwards for you, transferring money to your bank is still a bit of a drag but other than that theyre pretty good

Thankyou for raising that point about my site, all critisism is greatly appreciated, i will immediately take steps to improve it.

Just had a look and it seems like a solution but an expensive one at that,

3.5% transaction charge + 30p anti fraud per transaction + £20 a month + £100 setup fee.

I may seem favourable towards paypal but they are a damn site cheaper

Their charges are 3.4% + 20p per transaction, no monthly fee and no setup fee

Website Payments Pro allow to process credit cards on your website without redirecting customers to PayPal website.
