View Full Version : End of GeoTrust TrueBusinessID's and TrueSite for $89
PlanetDigita 07-30-2002, 10:45 PM This is a notice that as of August 6th, 2002 SSL4Less will longer be able to offer GeoTrust TrueBusinessID's and TrueSite Trust Icons for the unheard of price of $89.
Our contract is expiring with GeoTrust on August 7th 2002 and they have increased their pricing structure to existing resellers.
If I decide to keep SSL4Less.com open after the above mentioned dates the pricing for the certificates would increase to a bare minimum of $175.
SSL4Less.com is a reseller of Thawte Certificates as well but never implimented the option of buying Thawte Certificates on the SSL4Less.com website due to the fact I could sell you a GeoTrust Cert well below the reseller price of the Thawte Certificates.
As many of you know Thawte has recently raised the pricing of their certificates to all time highs.
These price increases are outrageous and if anything should be lowered as the cost of generating SSL certificates has not escalated in relation to the price increases that are being demanded. Of course this is my opinion and I have no hard data to prove this.
I am currently looking at other solutions to be able to offer webhosts a certificate thats pricing is more in line.
If you are needing a GeoTrust TrueBusinessID within the next month or so, you would be saving yourself almost $100 by purchasing your certificate by the 6th of August 2002.
Thanks for your time and I hope we meet again :-)
GlideTech 07-30-2002, 11:39 PM Really sorry to hear this Tracy :( Hopefully you will find a new solution soon.
We are placing a few orders right now before time is up. :)
Alareach 07-31-2002, 06:25 AM Just for the skeptical, I have ordered at least five certs through ssl4less.com and they work fine, and came within 24 hours.
Good company to do business with and for $89 you can't beat the price
Starhost 07-31-2002, 06:43 AM What will happen next year? I've got 2 of those certs from you and I like to know what will happen,
Because if the price will be raised I maybey should go with RS
PlanetDigita 07-31-2002, 08:11 AM When your certs expire you can go with whomever. The rackshack certs are quickssl's which is different than what you purchased from me.
Thanks for the compliments. I try my best to do what is right.
Vortech 07-31-2002, 08:54 AM PlanetDigita with a good name like that why not sell the geotrust certs you sell now for higher and sell there low end cert like RS does really cheap.. :) Just an idea..
ljprevo 07-31-2002, 09:04 AM My question is:
Why the increase? What is costing them more, most of the certs you get are automated.
My only thought on this is that the amount of certs they are selling is either going down, OR they are selling so many that they can't keep up with the influx of customers.
I am just curious for their basis for such a high raise in price.
While everything else is going down, domain names, hosting, templates in WHT offers section (:D ) why are SSL Certs going up?
PlanetDigita 07-31-2002, 09:47 AM Thanks Vortech.
I really think they offered resellers a really good deal to get their product out into the market place. Now that they have accomplished that goal, they no longer need the resellers.
I am really looking into several solutions to offer certificates at a reasonable price.
This news was a bit sudden to me and has caught me off guard and not much time to react.

Hmm... Greed? Raise the prices, and cut out the middle man.
GeoTrustCEO 07-31-2002, 03:24 PM Just so you know -- our cost are pretty high on the True BusinessID certs. It is not as automated as QuickSSL. We had some promotional pricing last year when we acquired the Equifax business on True BusinessID. We are trying to get things more aligned with our costs. I hope this answers your questions. We do appreciate the feedback we receive on this message board.

thewitt 07-31-2002, 04:42 PM GeoTrust is also certainly facing the perception of value errosion with companies like RackShack selling the QuickSSL cert at a significant loss.
The price difference between a QuickSSL cert and a True Business ID cert should not be $180... Retail on QuickSSl is $119. Retail on True Business ID is $229 for initial purchase, $159 for renewals. These are much more in line with the value of the products.

GeoTrustCEO 08-01-2002, 10:52 AM You are right -- we cannot control reseller price points
This is causing some dismay -- to say the least.. and gives the QuickSSL product a varied price range....
I am thinking about what to do..

If the prices have really increased that much, then we have just purchased our last certificates from GeoTrust. There is no need to pay more than $100 - $150 for a cert considering there are other companies popping up every day willing to offer more competitive prices.
Just my $0.02
ljprevo 08-01-2002, 11:23 AM I thought about signing up as a reseller, are these the new reseller prices?
QuickSSL Premium $99/unit
TrueBusinessID $155/unit
True Site $85/unit
Or are these going up?
markcastle 08-01-2002, 11:33 AM Try http://www.instantssl.com
GeoTrustCEO 08-01-2002, 12:05 PM Yep -- the new reseller stuff is up on the site...

I can't blame tracy!
Now its all coming out (hence my belated reply ;) ) with Rackshack offering geotrust certs at $29 while increasing the price for other resellers is simply not acceptable!

Rackshack is about to dish out Urchin (http://www.urchin.com/) for free. Your point?

Urchin does not have 300% difference in reseller prices.
