Hi everybody!

Do you know how I can install WAP-Support for FreeBSD and RaQ Systems?

So I can offer my customers WAP-Space?

Yes I remember that one. I think I started it *lol*

On the same subject, since then, is anyone doing it? If so, what's the results of signups, and/or requests. With all I've read on the subject it seems to be turning in a giant white elephant outside of Japan. Europe is getting in on it a little but all in all, no-one's that keen on tiny text pages on their phones.

Just wondering if anyone here has taken a leap and has some real life experience regarding it.

WAP, was just a BIG bubble that went bust. Though SMS is picking up :)

That's something that has practical value. You hit a website, need to contact someone (CEO or whoever). Type in a box and have it sent straight to their phone. The other way around is laborious of course. :) I have SMS on my phone but never use it. I just ring them as it's faster.

I live in Germany and everybody has a cellphone (>60%), so everybody but babyīs and older people. I know of a lot of people who have 2,3,4 or more phones, because a phone including $10 of talking time costs only $10! Thatīs if you get a "phone card" and we have 4 big cell phone nets, so you use a different phone for every time you want to call somebody who uses another net. That means that you get the phone including a phone card with e.g. $10 on it, you phone, send SMS or chat (itīs similar to SMS, but real-time and split screened.) and after you used you $10, you just buy another card with $10, $25, $50 and so on (or just buy a new phone). Or you buy a phone with a contract, then you pay $5-$35 a month for 12-24 months and get the newest phone worth about $500-600. If you make a contract. calling is cheaper than with a phone card. So the only way theyīre making money with the phone card phones is by hoping that all the customers will use their phone a lot. SMS is the most used option of the cell phones here. It usually costs $.15-$.20 to send a SMS from a cellphone. Itīs similar everywhere in Europe. Fortunecity and others are offering WAP-Space for free and some providers offer it as similar to regular Webspace-pakages. On every second German site you can send SMS for free, or just use a program (ICQ supports to send SMS to the whole world, itīs amazing, you send a SMS and somebody in Asia or the US receives it a few seconds later, for free!) to send them (A friend of mine has received SMS-Bombings, 100s of SMS, damn, I bet that takes a while to delete 'em all). WAP is very practical if you want to see how the stock market is going or if you want to do online-wap-banking or do auctioning on ebay. The only bad thing is that you canīt make a contract with unlimited calling time for $50 like in the US, that will come here later. But thatīs always the same, 3 years nobody could afford to go on the Internet here. Now Internet is booming, so I know a lot of people doing webdesign and making loads of money. Thatīs what my friend and Iīm gonna do, but weīre also gonna offer webhosting and programming and selling hard- and software....
But anyway - how is it in the US right now, with cellpones, SMS and wireless stuff?
