View Full Version : retrieving mail from old provider?

Greetings -

I recently transferred hosting of my domain from TCH to AxisHost.

No significant problems with TCH's hosting, but I wanted to add a few more URLs, and TCH's least costly offering was a $20/month reseller account, over 2-3 times the cost from other reputable vendors for comparable or better services.

My question -- is it possible to log into the old Server to check via cPanel whether any mail arrived after the sweep of files from TCH to AxisHost, but before the nameServer redirection kicked in on the 'net?

Thanks kindly.

If the account is still open then the actual physical mailbox will probably still be there.

However, whether or not you can still access it is another matter. By changing the servers you have, effectively, removed the the normal access route to that mailbox. There may be another way of getting to it, but that depends on how things are set up with your former provider.

Could you log into the IP of your old cPanel and check from there?

Indeed I can -- my new host (AxisHost) was able to provide me with the IP address.

If you only need to move few accounts you can use Imap:

An idea is:
In thunderbird create 2 Imap accounts,
one pointing to you old server ip.
Then you just move emails, thunderbird download each email and it will save to your new mail.
