Raman Kumar 07-30-2002, 05:43 PM Hello. I've decided to implement forums into my website, but I'm torn between XMB and phpbb.
XMB
Pros...
1) File attachments.
2) Sub-forums.
3) Simple to administer.
4) Very fast.
5) Well layed-out.
Cons...
1) Sort of ugly.
2) Subpar smilies.
3) Support, themes and additional smilies only available if 15 dollars are paid yearly
phpbb
Pros...
1) Free support, themes and additional smilies.
2) Aesthetically-pleasing.
Cons...
1) No sub-forums.
2) No file attachments.
3) Kind of slow.
Hmm, I can't think of any more, but I think you get the point. :)
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate your input.
mantra 07-30-2002, 05:45 PM I have used phpBB and Burning Board. I would recommend either of the two.
tazd9t9 07-30-2002, 05:47 PM what about invisionboard?
as far as i know there are file attatchments,
there are sub forums
its fast
there is free support and themes.
On the other hand, you can get a hack for file attatchments on phpbb2

Yes, but apparently it's for very advanced modders only. :(
Synthetic 07-30-2002, 05:53 PM Between the two you mentioned, I'd go with PHPBB.
JSpired 07-30-2002, 05:55 PM If you must choose between those two, I'd pick phpBB.
RobTheGolfer 07-30-2002, 05:57 PM PHPBB all the way!
Raman Kumar 07-30-2002, 05:59 PM Actually, I believe InvisionBoard is perfect for me! Thanks everyone!
I'm not sure where you can get themes for it, though. If anyone does, do tell! :D
And more importantly, if anyone knows where I can get ahold of a Star Trek theme, I would be really appreciative if you told me. :)

tazd9t9 07-30-2002, 07:39 PM yah sorry 2 much stuff on my mind 2 remember things properly lol
IGobyTerry 07-30-2002, 08:39 PM Actually for hacks it is www.ibresources.com and www.IbSkins.com for skins.
Synthetic 07-30-2002, 08:46 PM www.ibresources.com
Let I B Resources Ltd become your technology department and help assess your use of Internet related technologies, helping you to grow your sales and reduce your cost, effectively increasing your bottom line!
I think that may be incorrect...
Woody 07-31-2002, 11:22 PM The correct links are
http://www.ibresource.com/
and
http://www.ibskins.com/
:)
appletreats 08-01-2002, 02:33 AM I think that you can download an addon to phpBB that adds file attachments.
Ankit 08-01-2002, 01:20 PM I believe that comes standard with phpBB, and you enable it in the AdminCP. I may be wrong though.
