View Full Version : Remote System Monitoring
FDrive 07-30-2002, 04:32 PM I just wanted to share with everyone here my very positive experience with system monitoring from Alertra ( http://www.alertra.com/ ). The short message email notification (for emailing a cell phone or pager) is a lifesaver. So far all reports from them have been entirely accurate and prompt. My 30 day trial ran out a few weeks ago, and I am more than happy to be paying the modest fee. Highly recommended!
cahostnet 07-30-2002, 05:38 PM Nice plug!! :)
complx.net 07-30-2002, 05:47 PM I concidered going with alertra, then realized that for my personal needs, a ups that can page me is cheaper in the longrun
Synthetic 07-30-2002, 06:00 PM Thanks for sharing, I'll keep them in mind.
Aussie Bob 07-30-2002, 06:55 PM We have 3 servers being monitored by alertra.com. I am more than pleased with their monitoring. Todd has given me great service in setting up the account etc. It only costs around $80/mth. Money well spent, IMO. :agree:
Techark 07-30-2002, 06:58 PM I use them and so far they have been top notch.
A few weeks ago the network had a hiccup and lost packets during a ping my mobile went off and my home/office phone rang. By the time I loged on to find out what had happened 5 minutes later it was all going off again telling me everything was golden.
attila 07-31-2002, 03:40 AM I have small reseller account. Can anybody recommend a software that will monitor my main website and page or email me if there is any problem?
Thanks

ServerSonic 07-31-2002, 03:50 AM I had considered alerta but didn't go with them right away, but because of your post I'm taking them up on the trial.
Another option is easymonitor.com - free for now at least...
Website Rob 07-31-2002, 03:55 AM Another option is http://www.easymonitor.com/
It's free (for one URL), very accurate and will send an Email. Reports are nicely done/presented as well. They offer more in their pay-for services if you want it.

It has a free option.... i just saw it now.
Servstra-Sales 07-31-2002, 06:38 AM Alerta is one of the remote monitoring services our support techs use and they also speak highly of it.
ServerSonic 07-31-2002, 07:19 AM Has anyone ever thought of running the monitoring services... on the monitoring services and seeing what their uptime is? I mean if the servers are down often, how useful can they be in checking our servers?

Alertra, at least, has servers all over the globe. The chances of all of the servers being down at once is very, very slim.
InterServ-JB 08-01-2002, 07:27 PM Highly agree that Aletra is very good. The response time of the system is relatively fast. I killed the apache dameon and within seconds it notified me on my Nextel. Highly recommend and will continue to use.
ServerSonic 08-02-2002, 12:50 AM Yes I was upgrading Apache and Alerta came through, the second it went down my phone started buzzing and beeping:) I wonder how intensive it is for them to offer this service.
ho247 08-02-2002, 03:00 AM We use Alertra here too and are very impressed with it, it's definetly worth the price... but we've never received a server downtime msg :D.
