Gem Hexen 07-30-2002, 02:45 PM Get a Toshiba, just make sure to get the extended warranty in case pixels go out. Otherwise its an excellent pick. Sony Vaio is very good at a higher price cabalstudios 07-30-2002, 03:02 PM Anyone know any sites that are selling these Sony's at reasonable prices.... Small things break frequently and cost a fortune to repair/replace, and Sony does absolutely everything they can to avoid honoring their warranty. Their tech support sucks too. We had several Vaios at the hospital where I used to work and I would *never* buy one for myself after seeing the poor performance of both the laptops and Sony's support department. Anyone considering buying a laptop should read this PC magazine story: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,334332,00.asp DynastyHost 07-30-2002, 04:10 PM I'm thinking of getting this compaq 2710 850Mhz DVD 128MB RAM $450 shipped how's that? admin0 07-31-2002, 05:18 AM Originally posted by DynastyHost I'm thinking of getting this compaq 2710 850Mhz DVD 128MB RAM $450 shipped how's that? Unfortunately this is the same for most companies . . . admin0 07-31-2002, 01:49 PM so what laptop do you all recommend ? :homer: deathlord 07-31-2002, 02:02 PM if you have got money and are willing to look into dell i highly reccomend them.. I have purchased multiple dell computer's and never had a problem with a warranty or support. mas3000 07-31-2002, 02:12 PM http://www.sncomputers.com/?page=shop/browse&category_id=c1f23d1015dabe8bd1d7df972717d619 mahinder 07-31-2002, 04:05 PM what about compaq and ibm ? compaq's are cheap please share your experience with these laptop brands :0 ALSO, anyone having ACI Laptop? 24Host Tech3 07-31-2002, 04:22 PM This is the laptop I use. http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_264786U (might have to paste in that URL) I absolutely love it. a rock-solid machine. admin0 07-31-2002, 04:26 PM KDS are also cheap .. I like to know more about MICRON Laptops.. I heard that they are very strong and good in support too. :homer: xlhosting 07-31-2002, 04:32 PM what about compaq and ibm ? compaq's are cheap mahinder few my friends have Compaq and I hear only bad words about this brand. Especially if you like work outside. ibm is ibm - I never hear something bad about this brand. For me personally best forever is HP. Right now I have Sony FX, but next my choice would be HP. jic 07-31-2002, 09:12 PM Dell Refurbs! They are great.. I got a 1.4 GHz for $1200 JG 07-31-2002, 09:25 PM I just bought the combo drive model on this page from Fujitsu. http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=AF Absolutely the best notebook I've ever used. The thinnest I could find with integrated wireless and dvd/cd-rw. It's just great :D WebmastTroy 07-31-2002, 10:52 PM I've got a Compaq Presario 710US. It had some heat issues right when I purchased it. It would just shut off once it got too hot. Within the first few weeks, I had to send it back to Compaq twice to get the mainboard replaced. It still gets hot now, but not as bad, and it doesn't turn off anymore. Compaq's support stinks. For some reason, I always end up getting a foreign guy thats really hard to understand. The first time, the guy insisted that it was a software issue, although after doing Quick Restore twice, it still had problems. The first time I sent it in, they ran QuickRestore and said it was fixed. So the day I got it back, I had to call them again saying it was still having problems. They finally replaced the mainboard and, like I said, its not been too bad. qps 08-01-2002, 12:23 AM I've been looking at this: http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/notebooks/product.cfm?ProductType=8880#8880 My friends tell me that I will hate carrying it because it is so heavy, however, it's hard to beat the price and what it includes. Any thoughts on whether or not I should go for it? cbaker17 08-01-2002, 01:55 AM Ive bought several sagers for employees in our company, i can say that after 3 -4 years they all still work. BUT: 1. They are very heavy!! VERY VERY VERY... 2. Little things on them break much like the sonys, most of the batterys in all of them dont stay in anymore, alot of the springs on the doors dont work or popped off, 2 out of 5 of the screens now have a pink hue to them. But then again most are at least 2-3 years old and they sitll function, thats saying alot for as much as some of my guys have dropped and lugged them around all over the place. I myself would recommend a toshiba or dell. qps 08-01-2002, 02:02 AM If I were to go for the three year extended warranty, that would cover things like that, would it not? admin0 08-01-2002, 04:19 AM Originally posted by jic Dell Refurbs!
