i'm really tempted trying them ... but i'm a bit worried, as i've heard some costumers who were complaining, and finally left them because of poor speeds and some support issues.

I've had a server colocated with them for about six months, first on their shared 100mbit plan and then for the last two months or so on their dedicated 5mbit plan.

Transfer speeds and latency are very good going both to and from my server. Some of Cogent's peering points are pretty heavily loaded which causes a little trouble, but that's Cogent's problem, not FDCservers'. The connection used by the shared 100mbit servers was getting to be pretty heavily loaded when I switched to the dedicated 5mbit plan (this was actually my reason for switching). I understand that a few weeks ago they installed a couple of new 100mb lines to lessen the load a bit, and my performance to their speed test server on that connection has improved quite a bit.

Uptime has also been quite good. There's twice been late-night downtime for scheduled maintenance which I was pre-notified of, and the downtime has started and ended just about when FDC said it would.

I've been very impressed with technical support, especially considering what I'm paying. They've been more than willing to spend time to troubleshoot my box when something's gone awry, and recently when I needed to do some hands-on work Petr was willing to meet me at their offices to pick up the box and then drop it off again the next day.

I can't comment on the quality of their dedicated server offerings since I don't have one, but as colo goes I've been quite pleased.

In case you're not aware of this, they use Cogent bandwidth only. I personally would stay away from any company using Cogent, especially as the only and primary connection.

I have one of the $399 servers for about 5 weeks now and love it.

I'm on one of their shared plans; I'm in my 3rd month with them now, and they never could fix my packet loss problem, even after numerous emails. I've been patient so far, but I've started looking around again. True, they added 3 lines recently, but that only cut down my packet loss by half (or so it seems so far) to 10%. Still too much, and it slows down the link.

I was offered a 5mbit+ link upgrade, but I felt that if I'm going to pay twice as much I might as well go somewhere non-cogent based. The fact that they never could fix my packet loss problem didn't help either.

I'd read a lot of good things about them before I tried them, which is why I went with them. They didn't live up to my expectations. But I'm on one of the low end servers (around 100$/mo) not the bigger one.

i do not enough expereince to make a judgement, but, in the last week i have not noticed SLOW speeds. it's about the speed of my old server on a yipes line.

however, the new fdc site looks great in my opinion

i still have one of the 99$ Servers and its so fuc.... slow, when you need a fast server you better looking for a other hoster :bawling:

Always nice to us via EMAIL , always asking for discounts but on the other hand always crapping us on WHT even though his sever was pulling over 600GB/month.

If somebody has some free bandwidth or servers , email him I am sure he`ll be your customer. For some reason he failed to metion that when he got his server with us he didn`t have enough money but we still gave him the server even though he couldn`t pay for it at that moment

This guy is complete liar.

1. Do a search on his user name and you`ll see he posts only to crap threads about us

2. Also notice when this guy registered on WHT. The very same day he started crapping on us

3. he doesn`t have server with us but his friend Don McPartland who`s by the way seems to be a nice guy and recently complimented us on the good uptime of his server and who recently switched to 5mbit plan.

4. So his statement I have $99 server is untrue because the server is actually $179/month and I strongly doubt it is slow


I know this will generate responce from those parties but frankly I don`t want to argue with anybody who dedicate their free time to flame others. Just wanted to speak my piece

i technically have 4 servers. 1 on 5mbit, 3 on 100 mbit 1 windows 2 linux.
5mbit server is 100% uptime except schedule network maintenance. My first server is a bit slow. Its cause its upto its limit. Howevere still pulling 700+GB of data every month. Second server which has spec on High end server but on shared 100 Speed wise its ok. As we have to realize its SHARED so not necessarily we may get GUARANTEED 2MBIT ot 1mbit all the time. There was some issue with 100Mb network cause of DOS attacks which they were honest in telling us. So far only a few of my client have complaint who technically cannot bear any downtime. (wanna pay low and expect 100% uptime).
Will be moving the windows server to 5mb soon. On 5mb server we pull its FULL capacity and may soon go with 10mb dedicated :)
Only draw back is Petr dont use ICQ any more which is fine.
The thing is u get what u pay for. They give u free IP , free support and try to work with u......If u r starting a company and want reliable uptime then go with 5mbit line.

1. Paid for 9 months of service - only used 1 month

2. Bought an additional server for a client of mine - nothing but problems

3. Network was constantly slow - I was too embarrassed to even put clients on it for webhosting

4. Never was able to actually host shells because REVERSE DNS DIDN'T EVER WORK

5. I did message you to refund me and I did say I would stop posting about you because I WOULD THEN BE A HAPPY CAMPER

6. You knew I would be using the box for shell hosting and you even replied on ICQ with:

LOL ok I was told i should ask for a discount from somone that had gotten 3 or so boxes with you Because of me and he thought i deserved it.

next off wtf are you talking about man saying I did'nt have enough money when i ordered it? i did'nt even pay for the majority of the server since It was'nt for my use it was for the file server for my buddy's site and he used it.

so get your facts straight

I've been with them since early May and so far it's been pretty good... Occasionally there are some minor outages but overall uptime is good enough for my needs.

If you serve a lot of static files or are looking for a decent shoutcast server to add to your existing setup then these servers are a great bang for the buck.

I sympathize with zdwebhosting & hosticle (from what they say) - but there are a bunch of ppl on fdc that are happy...

I never even used the box for any shell hosting since it was too pathetic for me to allow any customer on it.

I only ever used it for backing up other servers. Which also didn't go down too well since the transfers would timeout.

You host shells on your servers anyway as far as I am concerned, so pull your head in.
