Hi all
Ok, I am going to host my domain name with EasySpace and use NTT/Verio as my Web/Mail Host. Is it sufficient to point to NTT/Verio's Domain Name Servers to allow me to edit the Zone File information via their control panel or do I have to change the IPS Tag against the domain name also?
Thanks in advance

Sorry, but I don't use EasySpace. Don't they have some kind of FAQ?

Well it is not linked with either EasySpace or NTT/Verio. More a technical domain question. Do Zone Records get used from where the Domain Name Servers are pointing to? I guess they do, as the IPS Tag on a .co.uk domain is only for specifying who looks after the registration of the domain, I think. Not sure, anyone confirm?

Chris,
For a .uk domain the IPS Tag only determines who gets the bill from Nominet when the domain name is up for renewal. It does not affect where the site is hosted. BUT, a few things to beware of:
- Some hosts won't host you unless you change the IPS Tag to their tag (any good host won't have this problem).
- Some hosts will not allow you to register the domain with them and then point the nameservers elsewhere.
I'd suggest you check out exactly what EasySpace's limitations are -- I recollect some discussion of them here on WHT. Just be careful you've read all the small print...
I'd suggest registering the domain with either 123reg.co.uk or ukreg.com (price is about the same, both are good reliable domain registration companies). You can choose what nameserver info to enter at the time of registration, or change it later using their control panel. That means your domain name registration is separate to your hosting and you can change nameservers whenever you want to change host.
Do Zone Records get used from where the Domain Name Servers are pointing to?
Simply put, the zone records are on the server which hosts the domain, that is, the server used for your website and email (there are more complicated versions, but that's good enough for now!).
You should not need to get into editing zone files -- your host will look after that. Most will also make custom edits on request if needed, eg to point to a different mail server (many hosts would agree that letting customers edit the zone files directly could create some support headaches -- not everyone will know how to do this correctly!). All you need do is change the nameserver info. I guess you have looked around at pricing? You can do a lot better than verio.co.uk -- just check out some of the UK hosts who post here.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. Just to satisfy any curious readers. I have decided to go with verio.com instead of verio.co.uk. .com is cheaper and offers more functionality. And the reason I have chosen them is based purely on size of the company and stability thereof. EasySpace have no issues with changing Domain Name Servers. Have done this with other domain names with them for sometime now. NTT/Verio allows you to directly submit specific advanced changes to the Zone File from within the control panel, and also provide excellent support on doing so. I will be using an A Record to point to the Static IP on our connected router via private.domainname.co.uk for local web/ftp/vpn access.
Thanks again. :)

Just had a look at 123reg.co.uk and ukreg.com. Very impressive. I will most likely be using one of these instead of EasySpace.
Thanks

I like Namecheap very much. Fast responce, nice e-mails, easy to use, url-forwarding resolved within 24 hours. :) And you are shown in Whois.
