View Full Version : Looks like TotallyHosted.net has bit the dust..
Formula1Sims 07-30-2002, 02:57 AM Well trust me to sign up with a new host.. and less than 7 days later for it to apparntly disappear...
Of course it could be downtime, but its been 12 hours at least so far..
Time to start again...
Cheers
ntwaddel 07-30-2002, 03:11 AM another one bites the dust :D dun dun
RackNine 07-30-2002, 03:26 AM There's a very high turnover rate for web hosts. Just like college's 2 year rule I'm confident anyone around for at least a year will have a good running start. This means however that at least 50% of startup hosts will fail.
Sincerely,
-Matt
TimPD 07-30-2002, 03:33 AM Not Sure what happen.
Formula1Sims 07-30-2002, 04:39 AM The thing that now thinking back looks so suss is this...
On the weekend I received a mail offering...
No Setup Fee!
1000Mb Storage
45Gb Bandwidth
24x7 FTP & Telnet
Frontpage Extension
MySQL, SSL, SSI
Unlimited Email Accounts
Unlimited Email Aliases
Cpanel Control Panel
Now this is normally $200 a year, and they would do it for $75... so I thought cool I will think it over, and I sent a couple of questions back... I got answers to those questions, and then a few hours later, a mail from Ben Hawker saying I had to act fast as this was a 24 hour deal only (now nowhere in the orignal message did it say it was for 24 hours)
My guess it was a last effort to get people out of pocket, me I will not be pushed into anything, and them mail pushing it came across as arrogant, so I didn't sign up (thank goodness)
Cheers
jamble 07-30-2002, 05:02 AM I think it's all my fault :D Since I moved from namehog.net a year ago, every host I've been involved with has turned into a pile of cack :( I think I'm cursed! totallyhosted seemed to be getting their act together too and I've quite happy with them in the last couple of weeks but now the site is down, my site is down, my tickets are not being answered :(
edude 07-30-2002, 05:03 AM Jamble, stay away from me!!!!
FAR AWAY!

I have been around since last november and have had gotten all my customers from word of mouth not but like 1 from here and am profiting so i've had a headstart for a while ;)
eHostPros 07-30-2002, 05:50 AM TotallyHosted is the same guy who stole the design of webmaster here  and didnt pay him yet.
Now they are totallybusted.com :D
Bad luck always follows these people :smash:
jamble 07-30-2002, 06:02 AM these hosts truly cheese me off !! I seem to pick some real losers!! I'm now considering either Ventures online or media temple as I don't think I can stand another crapola host :smash:
Formula1Sims 07-30-2002, 07:10 AM Ohh the plot thickens.. apparntly the downtime has been caused by a faulty router, this now brings my concern to the lack of contact and the process of informing account holders..
I guess we wait and see...

Ok, here's an interesting one... I decided to try and go to there website... Needless to say, since it isn't up, it goes to my search engine... Yahoo...
And, of course, Yahoo has a listing for them... Except that it points to some Totally Gay and Lesbian site!!!
Go figure...

Actually the studies here in the US says that within 4years of startup something like 90% of all small businesses will fail.

almost right from the US department of commerce
40% failure in 3 years or less
75% failure of business or partnership desolution in 7 years or less
this part I don't recall right:
something like 3% of all business created each year end up merged with someone else

No doubt it hard to get a biz going. You need a lot of time, money, & a business plan. You really can't just decide to be in business, you really have to think it through.
The above figures look accurate to me.

THBen 07-30-2002, 07:49 PM Hi,
I am the owner of Totally Hosted and I can assure you we are not "Totally Busted" Yesterday we experienced a severe hardware failure and only today managed to resolve it.
I am very sorry for the downtime and have created and put into effect a backup incase of any future mishaps.
Thanks
Synthetic 07-30-2002, 07:57 PM I guess some of us spoke too soon...
