I'm having trouble setting up a chat program. I've installed it several times previously on other servers with no problems.

I'm installing it manually because it will not work using the installation script. I've completed the manual installation, very carefully, but the program still won't work. Apparently the server won't allow my script to automatically create and chmod files as needed. I heard numerous complaints about problems running CGI scripts under Cpanel, and I was wondering if this is a common problem?

I had problems with CPanel accounts that didn't use suEXEC but it was generally just a permissions problem. What exactly does your error log say?

Yes, take a look at your log files.
Is the server running suEXEC? Or is the process running as "nobody"?
