I have a (windows) reseller account with a host right now and have about 10 domains that I need to move them to a new host (windows reseller again). I thought I read somewhere that the new host can transfer sites from one server to the other (provided I give username/pwd) through root scripts but when I contacted my potential host, they said I have to transfer all sites, one by one, through FTP! is that right?

well....for the time it would take them to transfer over 10 accounts ..i.e 20 mins max....it shouldn't be too much hassle for them to do IF they really wanted your business.
otherwise yes you'd have to ftp the 10 accounts over.
generally most companies will lend a hand and transfer the account over for the client as a gesture of goodwill anyway.

What control panel are both hosts using?

they said I have to transfer all sites, one by one, through FTP!It might involve more than FTP alone.
the new host can transfer sites from one server to the otherThat's usually part of the service (not that is has to be a part of the service anyway) when the host you're leaving from uses the same control panel as the one you're moving to, as the transfer can be automated. Otherwise it'll probably be a manual endeavor. You know how handmade things tend to be - expensive.
it shouldn't be too much hassle for them to do IF they really wanted your business.Personally, I wouldn't draw conclusions that easily. Hosts have to draw a line somewhere, and they don't have to draw it all at the same spot.

Hes using a windows host, and more than likely isn't using cPanel. Check the manual of your current control panel, and see if there is a server to server transfer.
