View Full Version : Constant SSH connection HANG on 4webspace RAQ
vladgur 02-26-2001, 08:43 PM Recently ive started experiencing constant connection hangs at random intervals when I try to login to my SSH account at my raq3 at 4webspace.com. I use SecureCRT and every now and then the connection drops in the middle of some task like ungzipping an archive or browsing lynx or just running some simple shell command. I dont get disconnected, its just I nothing that I do at my keyboard is received over at the raq's side. The raq itself doesnt crash, since I can disconnect and relogin instantly, but this behavior tend to repeat itself. Do you guys have any clue as for what can be happening? There is really no bandwidth being use at my account right now, so its not like its oversaturated....what could be a problem?

Not sure if this is it, but there is a known bug in some versions of SSH that can cause the session to hang when multiple TCP/IP connections are open on the remote server.

Look at question 5.15.
cbaker17 02-26-2001, 10:31 PM Im no tech, but I would also thing it could be a faulty cable, perhaps the connection laps for a few seconds long enough to screw up ssh???
You might try putty ssh its a free ssh program, do a search on yahoo for it
allan 02-26-2001, 10:52 PM I'll go one better, you can get PuTTY from here:

If we are playing that game, I'll go one better. You can get the PuTTY download page here:

(waits for someone to post the individual links for each OS).

Eeek. That's tough to beat. Vladgur, I'll install it OVERNIGHT for you, make your morning coffee, and have a $5,000 bonus from the boss sitting on your desk upon walking in. :)

To get back on the subject, I remember I had this problem a while ago. I had configured my DNS servers incorrectly. That might be the cause of your problems. If you are specifying your IP address as being the name server, make sure it exists. :)
vladgur 02-27-2001, 10:39 PM I am sorry Vincent Id have to refuse your offer since last night Ive accepted an offer of all-expense paid early retirement to an amazon island where computer programmers are the symbol of masculinity and wireless broadband internet access is as common as nude beaches.
On a more sad note, I dont run a DNS server. I use Terrabyte DNS which points to the right IP address... when I ssh I initiate connection to the domain name not the ip address. I will try that putty software, thanks for your advice.

Maybe I should start complaining about my connection not working. Save me a cabin. ;)
Let us know how it works out.
netastic 02-28-2001, 10:12 AM i have OpenSSH Server Release 2.1.1p2 installed on my raq4 at 4webspace and have had no problems.
